Wanted to share some great customer service we received from Southwest yesterday. Saturday, many of us from my office (about 12 of us) were on a flight out of Austin to Kansas City. The flight ended up being delayed for right around 3.5 hours for mechanical reasons. Frustrating, knowing we weren't leaving the airport until after we should have been home from our original flight. At the point we finally did leave, I was just ready to be home and was happy to have finally been on a plane headed that way. Sunday morning, I received an email from Southwest Proactive Communications apologizing for the delay and offering information that the flight was delayed because of hail damage inspection from earlier in the day. Also will be sending us a LUV Voucher to help restore our confidence in SW. I so appreciate this type of communication along with the voucher. While I was frustrated for the way the day ended with a very delayed flight, I was thankful that they acknowledged the issue and were very proactive with their email and offer. Thank you SW for being my favorite airline and I so appreciate the way you handled this particular instance. I will continue my luv for SW. 🙂 ~Pam

I found it funny that I could book tickets from MCI, but there were no return flights.... Guess it's now a sign that I should just live there? 🙂 New excuse for boss as to why I'm not returning after vacay: "um, SW doesn't fly me back home". LOL

Interesting! I do have points from a hotel stay recently. Odd that is what is triggering it. Thanks for the update!

I had a hotel stay in January and the "extra" points (13k) counted towards 2019 companion pass. My guess is the OP may have had a 2018 hotel stay and that is why it isn't showing as CP points.

I wouldn't risk it by doing it yourself. This is one that is best solved by calling customer service.

I might be the exception to this, but this is how it works for me and I do a lot of online shopping for the sole purpose of the companion pass every year. Most often, mine post on the Tuesday after the item has shipped. Seems my shopping points always post on Tuesday's late in the evenings, so see the points on Wednesday morning in my account. I've had a few items where it took an extra week, but not often.

While I understand your frustrution, to me it is more frustrating that you would want to use points for a rental car! I just quoted a rental car for an upcoming trip via SW site and the full size for 4 days would cost me $134.00. If I went through the system to use my RR points for the same rental, it would cost me 37,251 points! I'd rather use those points for a flight somewhere than using them for car rental. Doesn't seem like a very good use of your points IMO.

Have you tried checking your child in for the flight before you do your own? Not sure why you would think the rules don't apply, but I agree with other posters that you should board with your child's boarding number, even if it is a C. And yes, I have done this when my children were younger. While I think it is great that you fly enough to have A list status and a companion pass, that doesn't mean rules don't apply. I think for 1 trip, a sacrifice can be made to board later in line. At least there is still a seat for the 2 of you on the plane and I haven't come across anyone that wouldn't move to a different location should there not be 2 seats together to allow the 2 of you to sit together. Look at the life lesson you are teaching your child in patience and how to follow the rules. Enjoy the journey.

I just used my own email address for both of my kids and then when they got old enough they created their own email address and we updated RR.

I've noticed the same from MCI to TPA over the last few years. Now down to 1 non-stop early in the morning and 1 late in the evening. Used to be several going each way. Sure wish they would add some more options especially in the summer!

I still haven't received the companion pass points for this car rental. is anyone else still having this problem? I did rent a car last week and have received those points and they were credited to my CP points so it must have something to do with original rental was 12/30 and must just be lost. 😞

I agree completly! I booked through the SW site. When I click recent activity, it shows the 600 points for the rental, but when I click to see what is CP qualifying, they go away and they aren't in my total points on the dashboard either for CP. I get the additional points won't be, but I haven't even received those yet.

They weren't the bonus points, just the 600 points for a regular rental. I did get the points credited to my RR account, just not the CP.

We rented a car for our trip in December (12/21 - 12/29) and finally received 600 points from the rental on 1/11/18. The thing I don't like is that these points aren't being added to my companion pass qualifying points for this current year. I get that these are points from a 2017 trip, but if I was 599 points short of qualifying for companion pass in 2017, these points would not be added to my 2017 numbers and then qualify me for companion pass. So in essence, these points aren't being counted for anything. Note, that I did qualify for the CP in 2017 so I didn't need the points, but feel these points since they weren't awarded until 1/11/18 should count towards 2018 CP qualification. Any thoughts on why they aren't counted for either year? Just venting, and ultimately thankful for the 600 points and hoping that I won't need those last few points come December to re-qualify for CP again. 🙂

When we were on track to achieve the Companion Pass the first time, I read everything I could get my hands on to confirm what the rules were. I wanted this pass and wasn't willing to lose it just because "I didn't know" or "SW didn't inform me at the top of the rapid rewards page of what the rules are". I even looked at my Point Activity to learn what was posting as qualifiying points. ALL programs like this have fine print and EVERYONE should be reading them, if you want to attain the rewards of the program.

you would have had to earn the 110k points in 2018 to extend to 2019.

I'd read the subscription shopping deals closely. some will only post points after you have had the subscription for so many days. I'm getting our last 4000 points from a hotel stay for one night. Best of luck in getting those last points!

Million dollar question - which reservation will reward me the quickest for my RR points - Booking.com or Rocketmiles? Anyone know? I did Rocketmiles in October, 2016 and had my RR points within a week, but didn't know if they were still coming through that quick recently or not. This is a trip where I will check out on 12/23 so need the points to be awarded quickly. Also... on the bookings.com site, I see where you can get "special offer: more points" where you can get points within 7 days of your stay if you choose the prepaid option (and a slightly higher rate). Do ALL of these points count towards Companion Pass? I'm in a race to get the final points for CP, and these 3-4k points sure could help especially when it is a trip I'm already taking. Thanks!

Trying to book a car rental through the southwest.com site. CAN NEVER get it to go through, doesn't matter the browser I use, the car rental company I choose, nothing. Anyone else have these problems? I tried booking directly through the Budget site (like their rate today) so that I could get the extra SW Bonus points through their offer, and that site doesn't like my SW RR#. As often as rates change on car rentals, I don't want to have to call SW everytime! I check these rates frequently so that I can get the best rate and always amazed at how often the car rental rates change. Anyone have any suggestions?

I've found the same thing. However, you can get additional bonus RR points by going through SW instead of budget directly.

So funny to me how many people get upset by this. When boarding, I'm more excited/happy that I have a seat on a plane that can get me to my destination in 2.5 hours instead of 20+ hour drive it would take in a car. First world problems for sure. If you don't like the policies that SW has had in place for many years, move on. Stop the complaining and rethink how you look at life. There will always be rule breakers in this world because people feel they are entitled (for whatever reason). Smile and be thankful you are about to get on a plane that allows you to attend your meeting/vacation/time with loved ones, etc. quicker than if you were driving. I fly SW because they always have cheaper flights for where I'm going than any other airline. For that, I'll take any seat on the plane I can get. Who knows, you just might make a new friend or meet the love of your life. Embrace it and make the most of it.
