You could book your companion's trip with points. Then it is easy to cancel (and get your points back) and add the companion in case the flight might sell out. When you call to change your companion on your companion pass, you can have the agent make the changes for the flights for your wife.

did you use the Promocode? I originally thought the same thing that the prices weren't that great. I assumed the promocode was automatically entered, but found out it isn't. You have to enter it! I just got back 13k points by cancelling and rebooking a flight I already had scheduled! Thank you SW!

For some reason, I can't get the Enter and Play button to do anything. I've double checked that I marked all fields and clicked the box, but can't get it to enter me... I've tried other browsers also, but no luck. Will keep trying!

"Which offer do you think is best?" For me, the 10k companion pass points would be my best option. I'm going to be close to getting CP this year and this would help ensure I get it. Let us know what you decide! 🙂

Not understanding that if you fly that often, why you can't use your travel funds.

I noticed that my husband (my companion) was the boarding # right before mine over the last 4 flights we have taken and he checked in at least a few hours after me. Nice to be able to board together!

@PetertheProphet I was not dishonest in my post. We had no issues with anything. I probably could have added "we did not contract Covid on any of our 4 flights". Again, if the original poster had a problem with flying during these times, they need to find a different mode of transportation then. I personally feel it is safe to fly at this time. We both have our opinions and we both need to do what is right for ourselves. Are we to close the business permanently because of a virus? That is what will happen if we shut down until the virus is over (hint - it isn't going away, just like the flu, colds, etc.) TO this comment that I "willfully left out the fact that Southwest Airlines requires all passengers to wear face masks". No I didn't leave it out. It is understood by all who fly that they require all passengers to wear face masks. They post it everywhere, so I didn't feel the need to say it again.

Sorry your 3 friends contracted Covid. But I'd take those odds anytime! 3 out of the how many thousands of flight attendants on how many flights? I just flew 4 flights with my husband over the last month. No issues. Covid numbers are dropping significantly every day. Maybe now because the actual cause of the illness is being reported correctly and everything isn't Covid related. #MyOpinion If you choose not to fly because you don't feel it is right for you, that is ok.

be thankful you still have it. during these times, they could have taken it away completely. By the way, I earned it also. Thankful we still have the benefit.

We stayed at a hotel in Scottsdale in January. Checked out on 1/18, received points on 1/27. Might depend on the hotel chain, but it seems I've always gotten them pretty quickly (a week or two).

Sorry, but if you didn't get enough points, you shouldn't get the pass. Not sure why everyone feels the rules don't apply just because you are "loyal". I've been in your shoes and short less than 100 points one year. I learned the lesson and never have done that again.

As someone that worked hard to earn the required amount of points needed to obtain the Companion Pass, I'm not certain how you feel you should get the "well deserved" companion pass if you didn't meet the requirements. SW already gave us 25k points to help achieve the goal, along with extending it for 6 months if you didn't meet the requirements. Sorry, but you didn't meet the requirements, you shouldn't get the pass. There are other ways to earn it besides flying. I do it every year (a lot of work, but doable). Hoping, for you, life returns to normal in a few weeks and you can then start traveling again to earn the CP for next year.

I received the bonus today, but the points didn't go against companion pass. While I'm thankful for the added points, I thought I remembered seeing that they were companion pass qualifying. Has anyone else seen the same thing?

check your credit card statement. I've found the categories listed with the charge. I'm assuming if it says "grocery" on there, that is what will be given the extra points. If it doesn't say grocery, then it won't qualify.

I would book the flight with points and then once you are awarded the companion pass, you can cancel your companion's flight and add them as the companion. I would probably call SW and have them do this, especially if there are only a few seats left on the flight.

If the points are in your father-in-law's account, just have him purchase the tickets for you.

Wanted to share some great customer service we received from Southwest yesterday. Saturday, many of us from my office (about 12 of us) were on a flight out of Austin to Kansas City. The flight ended up being delayed for right around 3.5 hours for mechanical reasons. Frustrating, knowing we weren't leaving the airport until after we should have been home from our original flight. At the point we finally did leave, I was just ready to be home and was happy to have finally been on a plane headed that way. Sunday morning, I received an email from Southwest Proactive Communications apologizing for the delay and offering information that the flight was delayed because of hail damage inspection from earlier in the day. Also will be sending us a LUV Voucher to help restore our confidence in SW. I so appreciate this type of communication along with the voucher. While I was frustrated for the way the day ended with a very delayed flight, I was thankful that they acknowledged the issue and were very proactive with their email and offer. Thank you SW for being my favorite airline and I so appreciate the way you handled this particular instance. I will continue my luv for SW. 🙂 ~Pam

I found it funny that I could book tickets from MCI, but there were no return flights.... Guess it's now a sign that I should just live there? 🙂 New excuse for boss as to why I'm not returning after vacay: "um, SW doesn't fly me back home". LOL

Interesting! I do have points from a hotel stay recently. Odd that is what is triggering it. Thanks for the update!

I had a hotel stay in January and the "extra" points (13k) counted towards 2019 companion pass. My guess is the OP may have had a 2018 hotel stay and that is why it isn't showing as CP points.

I wouldn't risk it by doing it yourself. This is one that is best solved by calling customer service.

I might be the exception to this, but this is how it works for me and I do a lot of online shopping for the sole purpose of the companion pass every year. Most often, mine post on the Tuesday after the item has shipped. Seems my shopping points always post on Tuesday's late in the evenings, so see the points on Wednesday morning in my account. I've had a few items where it took an extra week, but not often.

While I understand your frustrution, to me it is more frustrating that you would want to use points for a rental car! I just quoted a rental car for an upcoming trip via SW site and the full size for 4 days would cost me $134.00. If I went through the system to use my RR points for the same rental, it would cost me 37,251 points! I'd rather use those points for a flight somewhere than using them for car rental. Doesn't seem like a very good use of your points IMO.

Have you tried checking your child in for the flight before you do your own? Not sure why you would think the rules don't apply, but I agree with other posters that you should board with your child's boarding number, even if it is a C. And yes, I have done this when my children were younger. While I think it is great that you fly enough to have A list status and a companion pass, that doesn't mean rules don't apply. I think for 1 trip, a sacrifice can be made to board later in line. At least there is still a seat for the 2 of you on the plane and I haven't come across anyone that wouldn't move to a different location should there not be 2 seats together to allow the 2 of you to sit together. Look at the life lesson you are teaching your child in patience and how to follow the rules. Enjoy the journey.

I've noticed the same from MCI to TPA over the last few years. Now down to 1 non-stop early in the morning and 1 late in the evening. Used to be several going each way. Sure wish they would add some more options especially in the summer!
