Why post this again? I'm sorry this happened to you, but would strongly advise for anyone that travels and needs to be somewhere important that day to dress for the occasion you are attending. Or, at the very least, carry on the clothing you will need to change into once you land.
I too have lost luggage in the past, but learned this very valuable lesson for future travel that is important how I look once I land (just in case).
There was a day that we dressed up to fly. Maybe we should return to that and leave the sweat pants and leggings as in-home or gym attire.

Yes, they make changes and move people around because flight needs change for the airline as a whole.
Even if the system did rebook you on a different flight, you are not charged for this. And even if you didn't like the new flight you were put on, you can rebook with them and there isn't a cost for that either. (at least this is all true in my past experiences).

Southwest is correct in that those purchases made in the last half of December would count towards companion pass. They just didn't indicate which year they would count for. They would have no idea when your statement processing day is with Chase.

It is possible that when they added you as the companion, it created a new RR # for you. It did this for my husband when I added him many years ago. I had to call SW to get it changed to his current RR#.

Just remember this in December in case you are trying to get companion in the following years! Your closing date will be December 4 so most of the month of December purchases will go towards the following year.

When is your credit card closing date? That is the date that matters for points posting from credit card charges.

Yes, I have to do this often. Cancel the companion flight and once that is removed from your flight, then you can make the change. Once you make the change, you will have to add your companion flight back on to your reservation. A little process, but it works without having to call in.

You still have a seat on the plane. 😀 Check in at the correct time and you most likely will not be in the C boarding group. I've never once received C boarding.

I'm sorry that happened to you! I have seen (and experienced wet luggage) where lightening struck during a rain storm and sirens went off in the airport/outside for all personnel to move indoors. In that moment, they would not have time to throw covers over luggage. Praying you were able to save some of the items and not everything was completely destroyed.

I only paid for early bird for myself back in October. My companion received the boarding number right in front of me.

Congrats on winning! I won 100k points about 10 years ago from SW and the email that I received looked very questionable. If you had entered the contest, I'd say it is valid, but glad you are verifying! If you find it's true, have a great vacation! 🙂 I'm trying to win this as well!!

we did this same thing on a flight back in October. It did assign the companion the number next to me.

My husband pre-boards (he has Cerebral Palsy). He can walk, very slowly, but can walk. Through airports we use wheelchairs because too many people don't pay attention to where they are walking and if my husband has to move quickly to avoid a collision, he will fall. And, if that same person doesn't see my husband and runs into him, he will fall. It's a no win situation, thus the wheelchair. Once they call for pre-boarding, he does get out of the chair and walks up to the line and onto the plane. When our kids were small, they allowed us all to pre-board with him (I as his "attendant" and our 2 girls). However, on multiple occasions, once the girls got old enough to stand in line by themselves, they stopped allowing that. We were perfectly fine with that. Now, one of us boards with him while the other 2 stand in line. We have been told and heard the Gate Agents tell "groups" that are wanting to pre-board that only 1 person can go with the disabled person. I'm sure there are a few GA who don't help with this, but rest assured a lot of them do! When I fly by myself, I have never once thought about the pre-boarders gaining some advantage over me by getting on the plane first. If I have a seat on the plane, we are all getting there at the same time. Really wish people would get over the rants about it. We all have bigger things to deal with than someone boarding before you. And to those that think pre-boarders need to leave the plane last. Hogwash! Do you think these people don't have connecting flights that they need to get to also? Remember, my husband moves very slowly and you want us to be last off the plane so we have to attempt to run even faster to the connection? Everyone really needs to stop thinking of only themselves. if you don't like it, stop flying and drive to your destination. Oh wait, you might have to wait in a line to get gas and that would upset you also because someone got there before you.

@Vetter Congrats on earning the CP! I know there are special promotions that go on through the year, but wanted to caution you on the expiration date. Make sure you verify in your My Account page of the expiration date of the CP. I had a friend earn it in July of one year and she thought it would expire in July of the next. CP dates are typically based on a calendar year (January 1 - December 31). Qualifying points earned are based on these dates as well. For future point earning, you would want to know when your credit card statement will post each month, especially for the December posting of points. Have fun using that CP! I love this perk!!

I think some confusion comes from thinking that you are buying more points. You aren't. You are paying more for a hotel room and their points awarded are more for the higher hotel cost.

I've done the pay more to get more points for hotels and ALL points counted. Buying points through SW is a different thing.

While I agree there seems to be a lot of issues flying these days, but staffing problems are a continuing problem with ALL companies, not just airlines. In our area, food places are also closing earlier and often unscheduled because they are short staffed. This isn't just a SW issue.

Try making a game of it to see who can wear the mask the longest (and start this when you book your flight - don't know of many booking flights for their 2 year old the next day so should be plenty of time to play the game and learn to wear it). Make it fun for them and they will wear it. Why do we make excuses that my kid is only 2 and can't wear a mask. Do they wear the clothing you put on them while you would fly? would they wear the shoes you put on them for the flight? would they wear a coat/hat/mittens if you told them they needed to because it was cold outside? If you answer yes to any of these and more questions, they can wear a mask if you tell them to. They are also not asking you to tape the mask to their faces, so there is room to leave a little area for extra breathing if needed.

I am in no way trying to make excuses for all of the cancellations with SW lately. But, something to keep in mind... The weather delay is most likely where your plane was coming from at some point through the day, which delayed their departure and snowballed for the remainder of the flights it was originally scheduled to fly that day. We had a flight scheduled over spring break one year, and it was cancelled because of weather in Baltimore, not Ft Myers where we were. Our plane could not leave Baltimore that morning, hence the cancellation of our flight and others through the day. Sorry for the inconvenience this week!

from my experience, those points change often. both up and down in #'s of points. When I find one with a large amount of points, I always book it (usually I book ones with free cancellations). Then I keep checking to see if maybe it ever increased in the number of points and make a change if so. I do this with everything, hotels, car rentals, and flights. 🙂 It's all a part of the travel game for me once we decide on a trip location.
