What @TheMiddleSeat said. Here is an article that outlines other ways you can build your points, but I personally only go for credit card spend and actual flying on paid tickets. More info on SW's site here too.

Someone had a similar question earlier, and I'll share with you similar feelings that I shared with them: Southwest is adding new routes all while also trying to ensure it can keep it's planes full enough to have a healthy cash flow. That means big adjustments in schedules. My home airport is in Nashville, and while we have a ton of non-stops, we have fewer numbers of non-stops on any given day due to demand. These changes are common across the industry, but you may feel them more with SW as it uses less of a hub and spoke model; traditionally, they don't operate mainly through hubs and offer many direct/non-stop options. One could guess that as travel picks back up, you might fine direct options from ATL > DTW. But it is hard to know. ATL is a big market for SW, so there are lots of direct flights to many places currently. Also, ATL and DTW are big Delta markets, which might play into competition/profitability for SW. Since this is a customer community, feel free to reach out to SW directly to share your concerns.

One could guess that as travel picks back up, the frequency of non-stop flights could as well, but that also may not be true depending on SW's strategic plans for Columbus. There are non-stops/direct options that do still exist for CMH: BNA, MCO, HOU, PHX -- these are just a few I found quickly. Since this is a customer community, feel free to reach out to SW directly to share your concerns.

My practice for one stop no plane changes is to expect NOT to get off. I hop up and use the restroom as soon as the local passengers are off the plane and try to be back in my seat before they start boarding for the next service.

Agree with @dfwskier -- I have never seen it take as long as SW actually says it does to receive the CP once you qualify. But I don't expect calling will do anything to expedite the process.

@kehlfamily I imagine that is frustrating. Lines seem to be all too common right now in air travel with travel picking back up. My suggestion would be to provide your feedback directly to SW since this is a customer community. Contact Customer Relations

Unfortunately, all we have for now is "Service will resume at a later date." You can follow all the COVID adjustments for scheduling here. Since this is a customer community, you can direct your inquiry directly to SW via one of the Contact Us methods below, but I am afraid you might not get an additional info until there is a public announcement. Good luck.

When I last used Ultimate Rewards, Southwest was not a redemption partner, BUT if I understand the current situation, definitely book through Ultimate Rewards for two reasons: It is the better deal due to the bonus. I believe you will still be able to accrue Rapid Rewards, tier qualifying, and Companion Pass qualifying points on the flight where you would not if you booked directly with SW points. I believe you have to call to make the booking with Ultimate Rewards. Hope that helps!

Good idea, @gsking, but note that not all hotel booking charge your card in advance -- especially if you book directly with the chain. Also, I have found that services that allow you to pay rent or mortgage with a credit card are not work the fee -- it doesn't balance out, at least not for me personally. That said, my approach is simple: put literally every expense that is payable by credit card on the card and then pay it off at the end of the month. I use it essentially like a debit card -- gas, bills, dining, groceries, any shopping, etc. Based on your monthly expenditure, you could still need to get more creative, OR this may easily get you there. If you have things on autopay on other cards, it may take some work. But it is worth it! Good luck. Enjoy the CP; it is an amazing perk!

While we do have kids, I do not have this specific experience based on their ages. But I do understand the challenge that comes with the age of two and keeping a mask on. That said, I did want to note that regardless of the experience of others, you risk being removed from the flight if you choose to fly and your child can't keep the mask on. It's unfortunate, but it is the reality, especially since not only is the SW's policy, but it is also federal policy. See more about SW's policy here; this is built around the federal policy. It is worth noting that exceptions are only allowed for disabilities. You can read more about that at this same link. If you have serious concerns about the ability to wear a mask, you might choose to delay air travel at this time.

This sounds like a poor technological response to an issue you were aware of. While I would like to have seen the "system" communicate what is actually able to happen or not happen, it looks like it failed to interpret the situation. Bottom line is that you do indeed have to travel by the expiration date of the funds. That said, depending on the reasoning for the offer by the app for you to make adjustments, you might contact SW directly to see what can be done. This is definitely a unique situation. I find it the most helpful to DM Southwest on FB or Twitter. Be sure to explain the situation in detail along with what your ask is. Good luck!

Short answer: yes. Even if you are booked together, you can full travel "alone." A couple of notes: If you are truly booked on the same confirmation number, one of you can check in online 24 hours out, and you guys should get sequential boarding positions. From there, you can choose to capture your mobile boarding passes, or you can choose to check in again to check bags and get printed boarding passes at the airport (together or separately). Enjoy your trip! I understand the art of balancing airport logistics and conference calls! 🙂

Southwest is known as one of the most flexible airlines in the industry with no fees for flight changes and checked bags. That said, there are policies that come with the Rapid Rewards program and Companion Pass. In my opinion as a long-time holder of both, I have a responsibility to understand the program and how it works for me. I am including a few links below that might be helpful: About Rapid Rewards Status Tiers and Benefits Rapid Rewards Tiers & Companion Pass FAQs Companion Pass Tips RR Coronavirus Updates The Points Guy: How to Use SW Companion Pass Hope those help.

With the way SW has been expanding its network, nothing will surprise me! We are seeing much smaller markets get added. Yuma does seem quite small, so I am not sure SW could support a market like that with 737s. Would they be able to fill flights? Regardless, you might choose to share your idea directly with the airline using one of the Contact Us methods below. Fingers crossed!

Most of the time, if I need to make a change to a reservation including companion, I call or use the app chat or social media direct message. Those teams can change things much more easily!

You would log into your Rapid Rewards account and book a flight using your points. At the passenger info page, put in all HER info including her RR number. Once the flight is booked, she will be able to see the reservation in her RR account and add you as the companion from there! It takes a few steps, but it def will work. Enjoy!

You can only choose from what is available. If that early AM flight is also full, there isn't anything that can be done about that, unfortunately. The best option at this point is to contact SW again and specifically ask what is available within the time frame you are allowed to change that is not full. The reality is that there may not be anything that is not full, or there may not be any alternative that fits your schedule. At that point, you may decide to fly on a full plane, or you can always cancel. Remember that with SW, you can hold the amount you paid for the flight on Travel Funds that you can use up to a year from the original purchase date.

As long as the flight are booked on the same reservation, you will have early bird boarding on both flights -- your first and your connecting in CA. Happy travels.

@Megrbrad Booking the "round trip" Memphis to Palm Beach, you can only choose from what is available. 40 mins is a tight connection, BUT there are two things to note about ATL: 1) all the gates are close together in the same concourse, and 2) I find that we always arrive in ATL early. "Always" meaning most of the time, of course. ATL is a large airport, and my personal observation is that there is way more time build into the flight time than necessary to account for that. This is especially true earlier in the day. If you do do "multi-city" ticketing, you stand to disrupt the Early Bird you already purchased, and you also have to consider how your bags may or may not be transferred if you check them. You would have to check with the full service desk at check in for that. If you sit toward the front of the plane and move quickly, you should be fine. Just note that you may not be as likely to sit together on the connecting flight. Good luck!

Hi, @yenowoho. The short answer to all of that is yes. You can! You can check her in on southwest.com or via the mobile site also. You will need her confirmation number and her name as it appears on the reservation. Also, check in exactly 24 hours out, regardless of time zone. So you will need to do it at your local time of 12:30pm. She can "check in" again when she is available to get her boarding pass, or you can save it and send it to her via mobile. Or, she can just get a printed boarding pass as you mentioned. It will be a breeze. Hope she has a safe trip, and thanks for helping her out!

It's unfortunate that your bags left without you. I've learned that in these uncertain situations involving weather or standby, it is best to carry on. But I also know you don't always have that choice. Given the wait times you are experiencing to talk with someone, you might choose an alternative method. You can see all the ways to contact customer relations here. Finally, I am not sure that SW will take any action for compensation beyond the refund of your flight because airlines are not at fault for weather-related issues. Hopefully one of the contact methods will work our for you. Good luck!
