I agree those with real disability need to board.  I’m 62, spinal fusion in 2 places. Paid to be placement 1 and there are right now 11 wheelchairs.. of which 5 are empty as the people in them just got up and walked with no problem down the terminal to grab something to eat..  people have no shame abusing the system then just smirk at you once they take all the front seats ... The situation that you described sounds like this passenger/Spirit employee was traveling on a confirmed ticket purchased by their employer.  Other airlines often purchase SWA Business Select fare tickets to ‘deadhead’ their employees to their destination for work purposes.  ... View more

"only sell earlybird for the A boarding position. There is no way to do that because there is no way to know how many A-Listers will grab A spots until 36 hours before the flight. You could have A50-A60 available and then 10 A Listers buy tickets and grab them.   EBCI only guarantees 2 things: 1) you don't need to worry about checking in at t-24 hours 2) You will get a better boarding position than everyone that checks in manually.   That's it. ... After 4 flights in 2 days which each had over 25  pre-boarders- I'm over it. And breaking news states that SW has increased the maximum charge for earlybird check-in and upgraded boarding ( up to $149!).  That will surely increase the number of pre-boarders.   Also- SW policy regarding saving of seats ( they don't officially have one)  has also been put out there on social media and now abused. We see people gaming most any system put in place. This is just one such example. I have been in line with a veteran of war that could easily legitimately qualify for pre board but he would not have it. He was pretty outraged at the people he saw clearly gaming the policy. A lifetime pass on WN doesn't make sense IMO. It is after all, a LCC that is not aligned with any major airline alliances, it doesn't even have interline agreements with any other airline and it uses its own proprietary reservation system than using the major ones like Amadeus Altea or SITA.    You're right that had you gone with AS, your miles and status would've mattered long term as they're now part of the oneworld alliance. Your lifetime status on AS would've allowed you to use your miles to book flights on JAL, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, etc. and it would've granted you lifetime lounge access to all these airlines as you traveled around the world in your retirement.    But if WN had lifetime status and points, it wouldn't make much difference. At best you can go to Aruba, only on WN, no lounges, no other airline partners, etc. And I don't see WN making any upgrades to their system, starting interline agreements or even joining any of the airline alliances. Maybe they can start their own LCC alliance and team up with RyanAir or AirAsia, but that's another major hassle in itself and highly unlikely in itself also.  ... View more

If the airline starts charging those customers of size for the 2nd seat they won’t purchase it and you will in turn be uncomfortable because they would be next to you encroaching on your space    Alaska has a policy (or did when I looked in to it several years back) where as long as there was an open seat when the aircraft took off they would refund a COS extra seat    if a plane has open seats why not make everyone comfortable? Full flight try to get the COS on a flight where they can be comfortable without upsetting someone by bumping them    everyone should be able to fly comfortably and the airlines are making Seats smaller even if we were all fit and healthy we will soon all expand to the seat next to us with the smaller seats by day  ... I haven't checked luggage in over 25 years. After the second time my luggage did not arrive, once again with very specific clothing required, a suit for an international presentation & a banquet down the first time, that was the very last time I ever checked luggage.   I do love your thinking. Involuntary bump can happen to anyone, it does not limit to companions. I've enjoyed many free flights from my companion pass and no other airline provides such a beneficial perk. It appears you obtained the companion pass via a promotional offer on credit card sign up. The standard expiration is the remainder of the year you earned it in AND the entire next calendar year.
