Also, when they still existed, Sotuhwest's senior fares were discounted Anytime fares, so they were the cheapest refundable fare one could buy, but they were not the cheapest. The cheapest was and is a Wanna Get Away fare.

Non-issue for me. I have an AA credit card and am status with them. AA and SWA are my top two go-to airlines. Basically I earn a ton of miles with AA that I use for free international flights. And I earn a respectable number of miles with my SWA credit card; and use them for free domestic flights. And free checked bags on both.

Today my daughter wants to Standby for an earlier flight. But she has a checked bag. Can that work? If so, how? She lives very close to her home/destination airport. So i wouldn't be a huge problem if her bag was on a different flight than her. If the bag was held at home airport.
Hello:
Here is Southwest's Policy:
What will happen to my checked bag if I choose to travel standby? When you choose to travel standby after checking a bag, you are voluntarily separating from your baggage. If you are cleared for your desired flight and your bag does not arrive with you at your destination, Southwest won't be responsible for delivery charges to get it to you.
https://www.southwest.com/help/changes-and-cancellations/same-day-change-same-day-standby
If you're still at the departing airport reading this, I would go to any SW Customer Service Counter (either the landside check-in counter or at any active SW Gate airside) and see if they can confirm status of the checked bag.
If they can confirm status...great! If not, upon arrival at your destination, I would go to and wait for your bag at the Baggage Claim area upon arrival but not expect it to be delivered. If your bags get transferred and delivered...great! If not, I would then go to the SW Baggage Claim office to confirm location status.
Hope this helps!

Yeah, that's not an accurate comparison. For one, those tickets are likely more, but more importantly this isnt all "new" spending. People are using the CC for things they're already buying, in our case there was no new spending at all.
That's a wise policy, I would only recommend to buy something extra if you are close at the end. It's not a good way to start off.

Absolutely its a good deal. I was smarting over having to pay 20,390 miles for a flight I booked for my niece. One way; but it was absolutely the only/best flight itinerary for her. When the 20% offer presented, I decided the best way to capture it/rebook her flight was to cancel the booking. Then I turned around and immediately booked the same flight for
16, 312 miles. A savings of 4,078 miles.

Actually, it will make no difference at all.
Why?
Answer: because this is a customer to customer forum that is used to obtain information, complain and compliment. Issues are not "fixed" here.
If you want to try to "fix" an issue, then you need to contact SW directly. To do so. click on "contact us" below and proceed.

I'm glad you were able to make the changes AND save money. There's no reason cancelling the companion should be stressful. The possibility of the flight becoming completely sold out in that small window of time while you make the adjustment is incredibly small. I actually don't even bother adding my companion to flights until it gets close to departure so I can easily re-price the flights. The exception is if the price has jumped waaay up and there's no chance of a lower price and it might actually sell out. I would also recommend booking one way flights instead of round trip as it makes making adjustments easier.

Yep! If you are nervous about anything for January, book the future companion on your own points as a plceholder then you'll have a spot for them even if something goes haywire.
If things work as expected then you can get your points back into your account when you cancel that booking.

Thanks and noted. I guess this is another example of gate agents inconsistently enforcing policy. Multiple times I simply asked at the entrance to jetbridge during Preboard announcement; and was happily accommodated by the agent ("of course Ms. Wollenberg"). This is my experience on other airlines also (American, Delta, etc). They do not require specific written designation on my boarding pass. If Southwest strictly does, then I guess gate agent should nicely and quietly explain this ("Maam, u need to get Preboard on your boarding pass. I'll let you board now, but pls keep this in mind for future flights.)"
The written policy online does ask for you to request the preboarding status at either the ticket counter or the gate desk, rather than directly from the gate agent during boarding.
I can understand the gate agent should have the discretion to allow it as well though, it makes sense that you would rarely be challenged on it.

You shouldn't have an issue requesting it from the gate desk even if the ticket counters are busy.

You sure can.
As long as your daughter remains your designated companion you can make as many reservations for her as you want.

You're on the right track. Yes, you need to wait until trip with companion #1 is complete before you can change your companion to person #2. You can "hold" a spot on trip #2 with points and then cancel it when you are ready to add your companion to that flight. However, that does not guarantee a spot will open up immediately, but it does seem to be the best bet if you are worried about a flight being completely sold out. If you do find yourself in the position of needing to add a companion to a sold out flight don't give up hope. Typically seats will become available 1-2 days prior to departure as people change plans or cancel right around the check-in time. Remember, you only need a seat in any fare class to be available to add a companion.

Order doesn't matter, but you will want to book separately as you have mentioned and of course you cannot add companion until after you have booked pass holder's ticket.

Heck 4PM is a great arrival, IMO (I am not an early morning person) and you still get the afternoon/evening, so I'm not seeing too much of a problem with that particular change. Besides, don't most hotels/resorts have checkin times that are between 3-4PM anyway?
Still, - I have you beat - Southwest changed one of my flights which had an original departure of 8:00AM, a 4 hour layover, and arrival at around 4PM, to a departure of *5:30AM*, a *12 hour layover*, and an arrival after 10PM 🤣😂 You'd better believe I used my free change for something a bit more sane ...

Thanks, last time I just stuck a tag on it, closed it, and laid it on the belt. It arrived like that at Austin TX airport, but on the belt over in the corner, for odd/irregular baggage I guess. I may try to find a box/wrapping; but that may actually cause more headache in anyone handling it than just leaving it free. Its not high dollar, like a $20 chair at Walgreens!

I've done this before and was grateful they allowed it, even with the $100 fee. I fly other major airlines also. None of them have such a policy at all. At 365th day your credit is totally done and over. I don't consider this policy ridiculous at all.
