Even if this was an option I would not recommend it. SW WiFi is not consistent and it is not uncommon for it to not be working on your flight.

I don’t typically check bags to be nimble, I often use the flexibility of standby and same day change and don’t want to worry about my luggage. I am not sure how this could be implemented because you can always add bags after you check in and have already received your boarding pass.

This is a forum for SW customers, it is not their customer service site. If you wish to get a response to an inquiry from SW you'll need to contract their customer service.

With the increased flexibility that SW started providing over the last year, that is same day changes and stand by, there are many people who are changing flights the day of the flight. I believe in order to do a same day change or standby the person has to check in first, thus consuming the boarding positions. The boarding positions open up once people confirm their same day change or stand by. So the flight could have been full at the time of your check in but then people switched around. I personally love the flexibility, but understand the confusion over the seating positions.

I believe they don't allow you to add a companion now because you would be able to book a companion on a flight anytime, not just during the promotion period. I don't think their systems are sophisticated enough to only let you add during that short window. If you are worried about the flight filling up, use points to book a flight now for your companion then cancel that flight once you add them as a companion to your reservation. (Or if flight is full, cancel first then add) If you don't have points, you can book a fully refundable ticket now for the companion and refund it once you are able to add the companion to your reservation. This of course does require you to float the cost until you are able to add the companion.

I would not agree the forum is for complaining, it is more for seeking help on possible ways to solve issues, gain information etc. If you are just looking for a place to complain no one here can help you come to a satisfactory resolution and you should probably seek assistance from customer service. I think you have been provided some information that should make your trip smoother in the future. You may also want to take the information you have learned here and apply it to other airlines that you may fly. It looks like Hawaiian may be one of your only options to fly a dog to Hawaii, most other airlines do not allow it.

When traveling out of the norm I like to do the research before booking. As mentioned when I started to travel with a pet I looked up the policy on line. If you go to the SW website and search traveling with pets it outlines the policies, fees and the steps needed. It also clearly states that they don't accept pets traveling too or from Hawaii or internationally. Since only so many pets are allowed on a plane, I would also recommend making the pet reservation as soon as you book the flight. If there isn't room at that time of booking you know right away and are still within the 24 hour refund timeframe. Waiting 2 days before the flight you risk not having an available spot for your fur pal. You could also call and make a reservation through customer service and ask them availability before booking.

Did you make a reservation for your pet? I have only recently started to fly with a pet and did my research before. The two airlines I have flown on both required a reservation and said there are limited spaces in the main cabin and only let specific breads elsewhere due to breathing issues (most short nosed breeds have to go in main). When I have had reservations it was easy, just went to the ticket counter and paid the fee, which they don't collect until the day of the flight at the ticket counter.

I personally would not ever make a non-refundable car or hotel as there are changes all the time. It could even be weather or illness, unrelated to SW schedule. That being said, SW does change their schedule. I think (but not sure) that when you receive an email that says "Your MM/DD trip to CITY, ST is all set" is when you can be comfortable they have set their schedule. I received this email for a 7/22 flight on 6/22 so about 1 month in advance.

I don't think it is normal for them to make that announcement, especially for any children regardless of age; however I also think they are lenient as to who gets in line.

I don't think these were change fees were they, vs the price of the ticket at the time of the change? A change fee, which I have had on airlines such as Alaska (that has now removed them) and American, would charge you $250 just to change the flight, + the cost of the new flight. Southwest will let you do same day standby to change at no charge, or if you pay the extra 20+ can do same day confirm changes at no extra charge, but these are only for flights the same day and on the day of travel. If you have to change to a different day of travel, or have to make the change before the travel day, you will always be charged the cost of the new fare at that time, or in many cases, given a credit if the price has dropped. If there are weather issues such as a storm, that will cause significant delays on the flight, they allow no charge changes up to 14 days. I assume when you say weather delay, you mean for the race not the flight, if the flight was delayed by 4 hours I would contract customer service and they may be able to help. Southwest has one of the most flexible policies out there. I don't know of any airline that will change you flight to a different day without charging the cost of the new flight time unless there is some flight delay preventing you from taking your original flight.

I would assume they would let the entire family do the family pre-board since two of them are 6 and under, but suppose it is up to the gate agent. I can't imagine they would not let the 7 year old board.
If you upgrade A1-A15 would only be you, no one else in the party
If the children are linked to your reservation, which I assume they are, you could pay for early check in, and I believe everyone linked to the reservation checks in at the same time. However, if you are not A status you probably end up in late A or early B anyway so may as well save the money and do the pre-board which is in between A and B

Sorry you had a bad experience, but I don't understand what happened. Were you trying to fly standby but there was only one seat on it so didn't take it? People are able to get on standby on the app to get in line; Also people who have A Status or paid for fares other than I wanna get away can do same day changes. If someone has a same day change they can grab that seat without waiting for standby to clear. I love the flexibility SW provides, but if I think there is a possibility I will want to change my flight, I pay the extra $20 to be able to do a same day standby. This is far more flexible than any airline I have flow recently.

Also check to see if you are actually on the same plane; I recently experienced this when my daughter returned from Hawaii. As she was flying home I realized it was a 45 min connection and was concerned, but then realized it was actually the same plane, it just that the flight number ended on the first segment and a new one started, from the same plane, for the 2nd leg so it was fine, luggage was on plane.

It sounds like you have a flight that SW changed the time. When SW changes the flight times, they give you the ability to change your flight to better times at the same price, however it does not show any price differences when you go to change. If you want to get a price adjustment you have to cancel and rebook the flight, but you would lose that flexibility to get a different flight for the same price. It depends on if you want that flexibility or a cheaper price. You should see a message at the top of the reservation when you open it that indicates if it has changed, which I think that is the change 2 times message.

When I book flights using RR the points always go back to the RR account used to purchase the ticket. The tax you have the option to use as a credit or refund. If choose credit for that it would be with the person who flew; Do you have emails with the reservation number showing the original purchase with the RR account number on it? If so, I would think you could email customer service with that info and would thing they would correct it.

To add to the other post; You can get on the standby list on the app the day of, if you wait until the airport then you will be way down the priority list and doubtful you will get standby; If you really want to change, look at spending a little more and booking the I wanna get away plus fare and you can make same day confirmed changes instead of standby, but the seats still need to be available; This means if there is room on the flight, you can book it on that day starting at midnight the day of, and not wait for standby list to clear. Standby or Confirmed change, you will lose your seating position from check in so don't purchase any early bird check in, you will lose that too. If you have small children, you can still do the family boarding; If you really want a specific flight, with 4 people at peak time, and if you are checking luggage you may want to just consider getting the flight you want, but if you are ok with the cheaper flight if that is what you end up with, it is a great way to save money;
