Hey there, i believe it differs by station, unfortunately. However, I think most Ops agents will allow you. If they don’t, you can definitely board with the younger child and save seats for the other two. Best of luck to you!

Hey @jcastro If your child is an infant and will be traveling as a lap child, you will need a birth certificate. If children are flying on any special fares (infant or child) they will need to be age verified. (Read more at the link I provided below.) Read more here from the Southwest website: https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/family/baby-on-board-pol.html?clk=GFOOTER-CUSTOMER-INFANT If your kids are aged 6 & under, you qualify for family boarding. That occurs between A and B group boarding. Happy travels!

Hey! If you pack your stroller in the suitcase it will count toward your luggage, I think. You should plan to be at be at the gate in time for family boarding which occurs just after A boarding (unless you get A boarding passes). You’ll have plenty of time to break down and stow anything you bring this way. As well as get seats nearby one another. Im not sure if you are taking your car seats to the plane or checking them, but I find it much easier to take the stroller with me to the gate and gate check it. It gets hand carried to the plane from the jet bridge and then brought back up on the other side. I’d guess it has less chance of damage this way. If you do want to check it, you’re allowed to pack it in a suitcase if you’d like. If your children are ticketed, they also get two bags, as well.

Hey there! You can check it, it doesn't count toward your bags and it's your decision on how it travels. If you'd like to bag it, SWA usually has special reusable bags available for $15 when you are checking bags. Happy traveling!

Hi @Violetpup - as long as your seats are FAA compliant, they will be fine. I've travelled with two seats before. Like you said, window and middle only. Your seats will show they're FAA approved with a sticker somewhere on the side or back. Happy travels!

Hey there, no, it's not a requirement for her to sit in a car seat. Since she is past the age of 2 she will have her own ticketed seat and is allowed to wear her seatbelt alone if that's your preference.

That's actually my other reason too ... except when my son was really tiny and breastfeeding all the time, it wasn't comfortable to travel with him in my lap. As far as using the seat Inflight, you don't use the base. If it's an infant carry seat (the "first stage" kind with the handle) you just run the belt through the belt path on top. Your manual should show you how to do that properly (it's the same as using it in a car without a base). You also have to put the seat in a window. It's not allowed anywhere else. And you dont need to bring anything. Your seat should have a sticker on it somewhere saying it's FAA approved. And, maybe call SWA directly and ask them if they would refund the ticket if there happens to be a seat open. You can also ask about infant fares. Depending on how far out from your trip, the infant fare might be cheaper than a full fare.

Hi @ammiemcd - This is a common concern! Here are some things to consider that might help you make your decision. - Airline travel is very safe. That said, they do strap down the coffee pots! - A two hour flight will go by really quickly. - I would guess that you will need your car seat on the other side. Nice to know exactly where it is. - His car seat is a familiar place to him, possibly making it a more comfortable flight for him. - If there is a seat available, you do not have to purchase a seat for him. Only if you want him guaranteed his own seat. There are pros and cons to both sides. But either way you'll be able to utilize Family Boarding, between the A and B groups. That will allow you to board and get situated. For what its worth, anytime I am traveling to where I'll need my car seats at arrival, I typically bring them on the plane with me. 🙂

Hey there! The gates can be a little spread out in Vegas, but generally not too bad. If you gate check your stroller it should not take any time to get back. It will just be waitingin the jetbridge when you get off the plane. I would opt for the stroller, but if you're more comfortable with wearing your baby, do that! Either way, with an hour layover, I don't see it being too much trouble. Good luck!

Hi @mikem4444 - I dont have an answer, since I don't work for SWA. I will say I know this is a recognized problem. And that SWA is currently converting to a new reservation system that is supposed to complete transition next month, I think. Im hoping/thinking this functionality may be added then.

Hi @kelseyhedges - I think if the infants are ticketed that might be allowed. That's a tough question though! I'm fairly sure you can't have two lap children because of oxygen masks. But if they're ticketed they'd be assigned the seats (and oxygen masks). I'm sure you're thinking more in the way of blocking the way to the aisle. I Have placed my infant seat in the window and my convertible seat in the middle before. But it doesn't block the passage to the aisle. Let's page @LindseyD and see if she might be able to provide a definitive answer.

Hi @mikeandpam! This is a great question. For starters, I think it's a great decision to bring the seats on the plane with you. It's easier to manage, plus it's a familiar place to them, not to mention the safety benefits. Next, you will have to place the car seats in the window, as per Federal Aviation Regulations the seats cannot block the access to the center aisle. So you won't be able to place seats as you suggested. I would suggest that you seat yourselves "two and two" one in front of the other. This way you will be able to put the babies in the windows and you and your spouse can still see and talk to one another, reasonably. A few things I'd also mention are that if the flight isn't full, there's a possibility that you can each keep the middle seat open and still have the row to yourselves. You probably won't know that until Boarding occurs. Next, keep in mind that most infant seats these days have a base for ease of use, but they aren't required. Check the Owners Manual on your seats; you may be able to leave the bases at home. One (two) less thing to carry! Finally, if you don't get an A Group boarding pass, your family qualifies (children 6 and under) for Family Boarding, which occurs just after A Group boards. Best of luck in your travels, and come back to The Community with any questions! Sarah P.S. You might also call to ask about Infant fares for your flight. Sometimes they aren't priced better, but sometimes they are. You have to call to get them, they're not available online.

Hi @wytetigerlily! Yes, you can bring powdered formula on the plane. I never have brought a whole can, but usually slightly more than I think I'll need. I don't bring bottled water because you have to get it screened further at TSA (see here: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/special-procedures/traveling-children). But that is allowed. I have purchased water in the airport to mix with, or when on the plane I have also asked for a cup of hot/warm water to mix up the bottle with. For ease of travel I also recommend the little travel packets of formula that are premeasured. Really easy to throw 5-6 of those in my diaper bag and know I have plenty of formula on hand that's ready to just pour into the bottle. Good luck! And don't forget to use Family Boarding if you're not in the A Group boarding. 🙂 Sarah

Hi alisonli88! Welcome to the community. 1) With two paid seats, you each get two checked bags, weighing less than 50lbs, for free. 2) You may check your car seat with your bags if you'd like. It is free and does not count as one of your two free bags. 3) You may gate check your stroller. It is free. Just make sure it gets a destination tag. 4) Family Boarding is always available to families with children 6 and under. It occurs after the A Group has boarded. They will usually call for "families with small children". 5) This may be airport specific, I'd check your local airport's website for this and lots of other good-to-know info. I am unaware of an airport with a family security lane, but that's doesn't mean they don't exist! Have a great trip!

Good morning! you will want to keep your stroller with you and gate check it. You can get your stroller tagged like the rest of your luggage, but take it with you through security. If your stroller folds down small enough to lay on the belt and send it through the X-ray machine, that's the easiest. However if it's too big, just tell the TSA personnel that it won't fit and they can do extra screening on it separately. You can then then use your stroller in the terminal and once you are boarding you fold down your stroller and leave it in the jetbridge area before you board the plane (there are often other strollers there). When exiting the plane for your layover, your stroller will again be in the jetbride for your use. This will be true anytime you leave your stroller for gate checking, whether it's your final destination, or a layover. Best of luck traveling, and don't forget to use Family Boarding!

Hi caala001- You can gate check them both, car seat and strollers. If you'd rather bring your car seat onboard with you, that's allowed too. If you aren't purchasing a seat for your child, you can ask the Customer Service Agent at the gate if there are going to be empty seats. If so, you can bring it on without charge. Otherwise you can gate check them both. You can gate check a stroller of any kind (yes, even those foldable wagons). Just make sure everything is tagged with your destination tag. Then just leave it in the jet bridge as you board the plane. I believe as two paying passengers, you and your husband can each check a stroller. I always say this, but in the case of potentially using a car seat aboard, you want to make sure to use Family Boarding (between A Boarding and B Boarding). You would need the extra time to get your seat installed. Hope this helps! Happy travels! P.S. Here's the info about gate checking - https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/baggage/carryon-bags-pol.html About halfway down the page.

Hey there! As a lap baby your child needs to be between 14 days and 2 years old. So you may need a birth certificate to verify his or her age. To travel as a lap baby, you just need to show up with the verification and obtain a Boarding Verification Document from the ticket counter. You can read read more info here: https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/family/baby-on-board-pol.html And, I always remind families to use Family Boarding if you have anything but an A Group Boarding pass. Family Boarding happens between A and B Boarding. The Ops Agent will call for families with small children, and that will be you!

Hello again! I have some suggestions about your car seats in the other question you posted; I'm a little unsure if your seats will fit. I'd check aLao to see if they have "FAA Approved" stickers. I gave some other options that may make it a bit easier on you than try to travel with two bigger seats. It can certainly be done, but you might be able to go a different route. As for the wagon ... I'm unsure actually. My guess is that you probably could gate check it as you would a stroller. But I think we should summon @LindseyD for a definitive answer. Best of luck!

Hi there, welcome to the Community! SWA seats are 17 inches between armrests, so your Britax seats might be a bit too big. Do they have an "FAA Approved" sticker somewhere on them? If your babies are big enough, I'd highly recommend looking into the CARES harness. It's my favorite way to strap my kids (age 1.5 and 4) into their seats on the plane. It's FAA approved, safe, and super convenient. http://kidsflysafe.com/ I mostly use this when I don't need to have my car seats with me (visiting family that have our extra seats, or using public transportation). Another thing you might consider if you'd rather a car seat is the COSCO Scenara (found at Walmart for under $50). It is REALLY lightweight (i.e. easy to lug around the airport) and definitely fits into the plane seat, forward and backward. When I had only my older child, that's what we used most of the time when flying. Don't forget to use Family Boarding, and feel free to send other questions our way! Happy travels! Sarah P.S. I did search and find that all Britax car seats are FAA approved. And, you can just raise the armrests. So your seats will fit. But I'd still have you to consider either of the options I gave to see if they might work for your family; I know it's hard work to carry kids, seats and carry on items all to the gate on your own. That said, I know you can make it work whichever you decide is right for you!

@sgobert Awesome! You guys will have a great time! I suggest bringing stuff to keep your kids occupied. (A good trick is to pick up a few things from the dollar store that will be new to play with on the plane. Maybe a new coloring book too.) There is free TV (Disney Channel included) you can connect to with your own device, always a favorite with my 4 year old. We bring some snacks along, especially for longer flights. I pack a little backpack for my 4 year old ( and soon for my 1 year old as well) that he is in charge of. Has his snacks, coloring items and a few little toys. Kids also love to see all the different things there are to see (loading bags, other planes, lots of people, etc.) at the airport. If you have other questions, let us know! We're all happy to help!

Hi @sgobert As long as your child is 6 and under, you are allowed to board after the A Group. (If you have an A Group boarding pass, you're welcome to board then.) To use this option, just stand near where the Ops Agent (ticket taker) is calling people to line up and board. Stand away from the line and out of the way. The Ops Agent will call for families with kids 6 and under to board after all the A Group folks have gone in. Then you just go on up and hand in your boarding pass. Best of luck!
