Book a cheap trip, something less expensive than the trip you really want, using the travel fund you have, then cancel it. That should generate a new confirmation number and a new travel fund (would retain the same expiration date) and then you could apply that new, smaller travel fund to the trip you really want. --TheMiddleSeat That would work.

Unfortunately I have to report back that at least some of the flights are not stocked with tonic water. They did have the ginger ale and cranberry cocktail, and I'm pretty sure I saw someone order the OJ on my morning flight.

It will depends on the flight attendants how they will treat your 2 year old. However it seems that flight attendants get some kind of satisfaction making a big deal about 2 year olds not wearing a mask. I saw flight attendants making big deal of a young child not having a mask on while he was asleep, and not saying anything to an adult man who had mask under his chin almost entire flight. One thing you can try to do is to get a mask exemption document from your son's pediatrician for the flight.

I've flown 61 flights so far this year. I've had one flight canceled and no flights delayed more than an hour. I'm not doubting anyone else's experience, but I do wonder if we are all flying on the same Southwest.

@thieu11 Southwest is not going to extend the expiration date of your travel funds. After they expire you can send a message asking that they be reinstated as vouchers. The value of each travel fund will be reduced by $100 each during this process. You have 6 months after the travel funds expire to request the conversion and then once you get the vouchers they will expire 6 months later. In the meantime enjoy the $150 voucher you are being sent. --TheMiddleSeat

@jksobonya "The facts" about COVID-19 have been ignored in many cases, particularly the fact that COVID is a mild-to-moderate virus, always has been even before vaccines were introduced, and that most who get it recover. People love to say how infectious COVID is to make you afraid ("It's 10x worse than the flu! Run for the hills!") or how many deaths there are in the United States (or world) to show just how "deadly" it is, but they conveniently ignore how many recover. In the US, the "death count" is around 700K now but almost 45 million have gotten COVID and recovered. Worldwide, over 200 million have recovered compared to just under 5 million deaths. COVID is simply not as deadly as people seem to think it is, but getting through to them is a lost cause. People are obsessed with death when they should be obsessed with recovery; some of these lost causes go as far as to make web sites to spread fear and try to shame unvaccinated people who die of COVID. It's really sickening behavior. There is a special place in you-know-where for those who are so terrified - for no real reason - that they promote unfounded fear to the masses. Anyway, back to mandates, I will continue to suggest in regards to US COVID deaths alone that had the nursing home "mandates" in NY, PA, OH, and other states not happened at the beginning of the pandemic, our death count would be cut significantly. We failed to protect the at-risk when they needed the most protection, and we are continuing to fail by over-protecting the least at-risk which is children. It really is a shame. Wow! So much wrong with this reply....I don't have the time or patience to reference the 1000+'s of non-biased publications that contradict every point you make...I respect your right to your opinion, regardless of it's scientific merit..Stay healthy and fly safe!

SW's stated policy is that as long as there is a mask mandate, service will consist of no more than 4 different drinks plus coffee. Why? To minimize flight attendant potential exposure to Covid.

I think your husband would be ok in 2 seats as I have seen others that size fit in 2 seats. I would proactively book the flight and it can be refunded after travel is complete. When booking just be sure you put XS in the middle name that way it will recognize it as a COS reservation and after travel is complete you can reach out to Southwest on Social media or call 800-435-9792 and they can get the 2nd seat refunded. -Blake

Ok, so follow the guidelines on the Hawaii Safe Travels Site, certain NAAT tests are not allowed, but if you have a Walgreens nearby, their PCR and Rapid IDNOW tests are approved and free. As for flying from the US State of Hawaii to the US mainland, no, you don't need to test.

I understand your situation of limited time, and many of the points have been covered. But with the limited non-stop anymore, I've found myself doing SWA on one way of the trip and another airline for the other way. It seems to be working for me, and of course, I'm a part of the other airline's reward program as well.

I fly a few times a week with good ol’ SWA and finally got a gold bag snack mix again today on SJC-DAL. I think they might still be using up those genetic white pretzel bags at certain hubs because I haven’t seen it anywhere else this week (long, short, midrange) despite their reappearance elsewhere. I was told weeks earlier it was a supply chain issue, like so many things right now. I loved the peanuts of old (they went great with a Friday flight home cocktail, ahem) but I too have been enjoying the snack mix, which popped up around last Spring. Hope they keep them around a while.

I tried to request either a voucher or extension, any options not to loose too much, but they simply stated nope in the email and a bunch of mumbo. So, I am assume they aren't working with us anymore? Once they expire, that's it? Did you request the voucher after the funds had expired? For many years this has been an option with a fee (most currently $100 per fund/person). There are ongoing changes with Southwest's telephone customer service avenues, so it's possible you just reached an uninformed rep. I'd recommend contacting Customer Relations via social media direct message and make the voucher request. Good luck. Contact Customer Relations

Am I crazy, or has the coffee been awful since the return? I used to think the Community was pretty good (if not amazing or anything) for airline coffee, but it tastes rather bad now. I don’t know if they are using old stale grounds from early 2020, or if the water filtration systems got calcified up, or what. Is it possible that they are using some cheapo generic brand due to supply issues, a la the pretzels right now? It’s enough to make me dip into my per diem and/or suffer the lines at the airport.

Southwest is not doing a good job of handling this entirely self-inflicted situation. My flight on Monday was significantly delayed. They knew that this would be happening by the middle of the previous day. They notified me at 2:30am for a 6:50am flight. If they had notified me the day before, I could have possibly rescheduled. There were other possibilities. This was poor handling. Southwest should do better at being proactive in handling problems caused by poor management. However, I did get an email from them later in the week giving me $100 of LUV. I'd rather they had get me to work on time. I'd rather they would have let me know about my delayed flight earlier. I suspect it was easier for Southwest to make me late to work than to deal with me trying to reschedule. For that, Southwest, you suck. But, as bad as Southwest is sometimes, they are generally better than any of the other choices, and no one else would have proactively sent me a voucher. Now, if SWA stock would just improve. I've lost a chunk of change on SWA and BA stock in the last few months.

I find no record of a contract between Southwest and the FA union after 2016-2018. In mid February 2020 the two groups were about to head into mediation. I bet the virus stopped that cold. So I'd' bet the groups are negotiating again. A typical union thing is to do something like this during contract negotiations. edit add: I bet that once the FAs have a new contract that they won't be at the "breaking point" anymore.

@spratrat,. So sorry this happened. An after midnight trip from IAH to HOU will not be fun. The only good thing is less traffic on the road so hopefully less worry about not having the children in car seats. The fare from one airport to the other was about $65 via Uber about three years ago (and about $1 per minute). Plus I always found that catching an Uber or Lyft from IAH was more complicated than I liked, so Hobby was always my airport of choice. I hope the trek goes well and the children are sleeping. My child never got sleepy on a plane or in a hired car, no matter how early or late I traveled, so I know you cannot count on that. My heart goes out to you — it was always hard for me to grasp just how big Houston is in land area. I agree with you that it doesn’t seem like the two airports should be counted as being in the same city.
