@dfwskier To me, the biggest difference between in a car and a plane is control of the situation...I did a lot of amateur racing in a Mitsubishi IX with a full roll cage, HANS device and 5 point harness...you couldn't feel more "trapped" per se, but subconsciously I knew I could always "get out" if I wanted; never did because I never "felt" trapped....you don't have that choice in a plane. The main reason I fly Southwest is because the Southwest fleet of 100% 737's have a bigger and more open "feel" to them and are not as confining as an E-175 with 1x2 rows...I can't in fly those types of planes....

It's been a very frustrating experience with SWA recently. My last 3 flights have been delayed 45 minutes or more. When I looked up at the board at BNA this week, I counted a good 60% of the flights SWA flights delayed and no other airline had anywhere near the same number of delays....not sure it is specific to SWA at BNA but was a bit of an eye opener... Even when we do arrive on time like my flight from PIT to BNA this evening, we sat 40 minutes waiting for a gate at BNA 😞 Hoping things get back to some sense of "normal" as my favorite airline seems to be struggling....

@jksobonya Well, $44/day is for short term parking. That's not really a part of the discussion since I would never use short term parking - and who would park 24 hours or more in short term?! I guess it's how you define "short term" When I lived in Pittsburgh, I and hundreds of people used short term parking: https://flypittsburgh.com/pittsburgh-international-airport/parking/parking-options/ The parking at BNA adjacent to the terminal would probably be considered "short term" but isn't described in that way...

@jksobonya "The facts" about COVID-19 have been ignored in many cases, particularly the fact that COVID is a mild-to-moderate virus, always has been even before vaccines were introduced, and that most who get it recover. People love to say how infectious COVID is to make you afraid ("It's 10x worse than the flu! Run for the hills!") or how many deaths there are in the United States (or world) to show just how "deadly" it is, but they conveniently ignore how many recover. In the US, the "death count" is around 700K now but almost 45 million have gotten COVID and recovered. Worldwide, over 200 million have recovered compared to just under 5 million deaths. COVID is simply not as deadly as people seem to think it is, but getting through to them is a lost cause. People are obsessed with death when they should be obsessed with recovery; some of these lost causes go as far as to make web sites to spread fear and try to shame unvaccinated people who die of COVID. It's really sickening behavior. There is a special place in you-know-where for those who are so terrified - for no real reason - that they promote unfounded fear to the masses. Anyway, back to mandates, I will continue to suggest in regards to US COVID deaths alone that had the nursing home "mandates" in NY, PA, OH, and other states not happened at the beginning of the pandemic, our death count would be cut significantly. We failed to protect the at-risk when they needed the most protection, and we are continuing to fail by over-protecting the least at-risk which is children. It really is a shame. Wow! So much wrong with this reply....I don't have the time or patience to reference the 1000+'s of non-biased publications that contradict every point you make...I respect your right to your opinion, regardless of it's scientific merit..Stay healthy and fly safe!

@aubreybaileyI honestly have no idea why Southwest would refund your money unless WiFi didn't work on you iPhone. Southwest has no control of the fact that you don't have a hotspot to work with you laptop....it's only $8....I've made much bigger financial mistakes! 🙂 Fly safe!

In Nashville, here is the cost and pricing structure https://flynashville.com/park-at-bna As my company reimburses up to $25 a day in parking expenses for travel, I will use the Terminal Garages which are less than a 5 minute walk to check in which is incredibly convenient! Not 100% sure of the comparison to PHL but if the "best" parking is $44 at PHL vs. the "best"parking in at BNA at $24, then you definitely win that bet..heck valet at BNA is $33!

@jksobonya"There is not a chance that COVID is "10 times" worse than the flu." You have every right to your opinion but I will take the opinion of the physicians at Johns Hopkins and the other medical institutions over yours 100 times out of 100. If you truly think influenza has the same impact as COVID-19 on the overall general population then you are just ignoring to the facts. I do agree with you that many times the CDC and NIH have got it "wrong" on many occasions, but they have been chasing a moving target and dealing with the "politics" around COVID I wish you continued health, regardless of our conflicting opinions-fly safe!

@jksobonya jksobonya "As I predicted, COVID is turning out to be more and more like the flu and it should be treated as such" Seriously??? Are you an Epidemiologist? https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/coronavirus/coronavirus-disease-2019-vs-the-flu "The COVID-19 situation continues to change, sometimes rapidly. Doctors and scientists are working to estimate the mortality rate of COVID-19. At present, it is thought to be substantially higher (possibly 10 times or more) than that of most strains of the flu."

@chardumond So welcome to Southwest "love it or hate it" boarding process! So, the first thing to understand is that unlike other airlines where you typically choose your seats when you purchase your tickets (and in many cases pay additional fees to choose that seat), Southwest has no assigned seating. You are instead given a place in the boarding line! So essentially, you take whatever seat you want! So here is the caveat! Southwest boards in a very orderly fashion (unless you are flying from the Dominican Republic LOL...another story!) where the "A group" lines up on one side of the column (you will see the columns when you get to the gate so you will know what I mean) from 1-30 and the other side 30-60..so the A group will have the choice of the 1st 60 seats. The B groups lines up in the same fashion and will have the next choice of the remaining seats, again, sitting anywhere they would like..C group is last group to baord There is a way to insure that you will get a "decent" choice of seats (typically high A group to mid B group) which is to pay for Early-Bird check in where Southwest will automatically check you in and you will be assigned your place in the boarding line based on when you purchased your Early Bird ticket. The other option is to check yourself in EXACTLY 24 hours before your flight and see what place in the boarding line you are assigned. Depending on how full the flight is, you could still get a decent place in line for boarding or you could be assigned Group C and possibly have no way to sit with a travel companion...which sucks... Finally, if you elect to check in 24 hours before and get a crappy place in the boarding line you can upgrade to the A group at the gate for a slightly higher price than Early Bird, but it is subject to availability.. My advice (especially if you are traveling with someone you want to sit with) is to pay the extra for Early Bird, take the stress out of check-in as SWA does it for you, print your tickets or download to your phone, get there early, take a carry on (unless you have to check luggage) and have a fun flight! Also, i would talk to the gate agent and let them know this is your first time flying and they will typically keep an eye out to make sure things go well!

I agree, no WiFi can be frustrating! In terms of work, I always plan to do work that doesn't require a connection to the internet and if I do have a connection, which is the vast majority of the time, I can e-mail and text as needed for free with Southwest ALP. I have yet to fly an airline that has 100% uptime with their intent connections, including United...I think it's a big gap/problem that all airlines need to address!

I wonder what the rational is around this rule? It seems if you are paying for two seats, why would it matter? I've wondered how folks that cannot physically fit in a single seat (not by choice as in your scenario) handle such a situation...I always assumed they purchased 2 seats? If that is the case, why wouldn't they let you do the same...curious to know

We can debate this back and fourth until the cows come home and nothing will change until SWA actually enforces the one (1) preboard passenger and one (1) attendant. To me this is the biggest issue in terms of scamming. We will allow one travel companion to act as an “attendant” and preboard with a Customer with a disability. Simple.... SWA does not consistently enforce their own policies which is the problem. I have seen (on countless occasions) 3 to 4 people boarding with a preboard passenger that did not have any preboard documentation....this happens all the time. SWA gate agents can't challenge the validity of the preboarder (nor should the gate agent have to) but they can enforce the rules and not allow any more than one attendant. For the 2 to 10 preboard passengers with one attendant that will take up the first rows..all good...it's a heck of a lot better than 10 to 50 people taking the first rows which happens without enforcing the one attendant rule..

bwallet Active Member I don't think that this is great news at all. I've easily flown enough to keep A-List Preferred. Having other people get given status to compete with me for what are admittedly relatively few perks isn't good news. Perhaps they could be given A-List light and not ever get a higher boarding number then me? Then I'd consider that neutral news instead of bad. Seriously though, good news would be an A-List check-in at OKC. The lines there can get very, very long early in the morning I would assume you are being somewhat sarcastic in your reply :-)..I've been flying SWA for over 15 years and have been ALP since the program inception. I have also benefited from the CP program so am a SWA fan-boi! I don't think you will be "competing" with more ALP's. Business travelers (like me) have reduced travel to customers due to COVID. Some ALP's may not even fly this year with the Delta Variant menacing the US. Basically, SWA is just trying not to lose their core travelers with this offer. That said, it's a smart decision by SWA to keep their most lucrative passengers from defecting , which in the end benefits all of us! Cheers!

35 minutes? Ugh..... Lots of factors obviously go into connecting flights....you might want to take a look at the historical delays from your arriving and connecting flights... Are there additional flights in case you miss your connection? Are those flights at capacity/ sold out? Secondly, are you the last flight out? If so, SWA seems to be more accommodating to connections at the end of the day (I know after having sat on flights delayed for 45+ minutes waiting for connecting passengers) What gate do you land at and what gate is the departure for the connecting flight? Even If you land "on time" but by the time you disembark and then the time it takes you to get from one end of the airport to the other..even if you make it on time, welcome to your "Middle Seat"even though you are holding A-19! Typically if you are "first flight out" in the morning, you will be OK..anything after that is a crapshoot Wish you luck!

Perhaps they are seeing future cancellations now that vacation travel has peaked with kids back in school? Right now every flight is still jam packed. My guess is they want to keep their high-volume business travelers that may lose status from jumping ship and looking at other airlines/programs so they are making it easier to stay

With no real pick up in work travel so far this year, I was pondering a way just to salvage A-List status for 2022 and out of nowhere, SWA comes to the rescue! I already have 3 flights booked within the time frame so this is great news..now to focus on the Companion Pass LOL! e-mail below: We've made it easy for you to enjoy another full year of the A-List Preferred benefits you deserve. Really easy. Simply fly two qualifying round trip flights (or four qualifying one-way flights) between August 19 and November 19, 2021 to keep your A-List Preferred benefits through December 31, 2022. This offer applies to all flights taken August 19 - November 19, regardless of when they were booked, including award travel! No registration required.

For many of the Flight Attendants, there's not a lot to joke about and there isn't much "fun" these days. We had a lengthy conversation with a SWA Flight Attendant before we boarded a flight to Punta Cana and she mentioned that the crews are on edge due to all the morons with attitudes on flying these days. She mentioned they are on high alert for these idiots that feel the rules don't apply to them and decide they want to be disruptive at 39,000 feet. She said things aren't getting any better....
