I've read conflicting responses for the purchasing of an extra seat. My husband has a large chest/ shoulders, I have a large bottom, we are flying to Vegas and thought it best to purchase an extra seat. I want to pre-board as it is difficult for me to walk the aisle, I don't want everyone staring and judging my size. I am confused about pre-boarding or if I have to purchase Early Bird check in. I sent Southwest an email weeks ago, I never received a reply - they said it could take up to 30 days for an answer, I am impatient & want to calm my anxiety. Thank you
All three responses so far are the answer to the post:
1) don’t buy early bird if you will ask for preboarding and/or COS.
2) the scenario for you both might be for you to ask for medical preboarding and him to book customer of size which includes preboarding, then you can both board and pick out a three-seat row and put the placard on the middle seat. (Or the window
note: the COS ticket is refunded, so you don’t actually “pay” for it in the end but you do have to buy it up front and get a refund later. There is no option to buy a second seat for yourself, it’s not compatible with the ticketing system. The COS method is the workaround in this regard.
3) There isn’t any reason for you both to be COS when all you need is one empty middle seat to share. You could both do it if you didn’t plan to sit together.
4) if you don’t end up preboarding or as COS, head to the middle of the place the window seats are a little wider there. The very front and back window seats are thinner seats due to the tapering of the fuselage.

My tickets all have PHD on them. TSA agents call me Dr. Wallet all the time, and a few ask me what field. Other than that, it doesn't matter. I doubt a TSA agent is going to ask your wife for tax advice.

I booked an airfare for two, hotel, and a rental car package deal with Southwest Airlines to Texas for the dates of 11/24/2022- 11/26/2022 which I choose the option to pay with a payment plan option Southwest Airlines provided through Uplift as a third party company at the time of purchase. On 11/24/2022, upon arriving at Motel 6 my 14 y/o daughter and I chose to stay at another hotel due to the poor sanitary/living conditions of the motel booked. Although disappointed by the roo, I was able to get a refund receipt from the hotel manager immediately. However, after multiple unsuccessful attempts of calling Southwest Airlines, I have not been able to get anyone from Southwest Airlines to even return my call or respond via email. I have been told multiple times by Uplift, the third party payment plan company, that Southwest Airlines needs to refund the funds from there end. In the mean time, after almost 6 months and repeated attempts to get someone on the phone/email, o one has returned my calls and nothing has been done to rectify this issue. Now my card is at risk of being charged for things I never used. Unhappy Customer
I'm confused on a multitude of levels.
First - did this trip happen in the future? You say you mention November 2022 multiple times - I just checked my calendar, and we are in April 2022. I assume you meant November 2021.
Second - you got a refund "receipt" for the room because you didn't end up staying there. OK.
Third - considering this happened *6 months ago now* you should have been charged ... 6 months ago. You used your airfare and rental car and should have gotten refunded only for your hotel portion by now. However, considering you did not stay at the hotel, I don't know how they would have communicated that back to Southwest Vacations.
Fourth - my dude it's a Motel 6. They aren't that bad - I have stayed at a Motel 6 twice in LA because it was a cheaper hotel close to the Walk of Fame and the Greek Theatre lol but honestly I don't understand the argument that it had "poor sanitary/living conditions." It's a freaking Motel 6. Were you expecting a 5 star experience? If such a hotel is beneath you, you never should have booked it to begin with. I say cut your losses and move on. Motel 6 rates are not expensive, anyway, and if it's been 6 months and you still haven't been refunded your money which I am willing to bet is less than $99/night I doubt you ever will.

I fly out of BDL (Hartford) and PVD (Providence).
PVD has 3 parking garages...2 owned by the airport and one that was owned by the airport but is now privately owned. I park in the private garage (called Red Beam Garage C). It is a good deal cheaper than the others and is still on airport property. There are very few off-site lots at PVD. If I stay overnight the night before I stay at the Holiday Inn Express.
BDL has a parking garage and 4 lots scattered around airport property. The garage is expensive. In winter I park in the garage as things can get brutal around here. In other times of year I park in what's called Express Lot 1. It is next to the terminal and not a long walk. If there is a shuttle waiting I take that, if not I walk. There are a lot of off-site lots at BDL, and I have friends who always use the Parking Spot. For overnight stays I use LaQuinta.

@sandybeachs1981 To each their own, but you said you were told, (however it was, polite, rude, aggressive) in my mind that is irrelevant, I (and I hope the majority of people) would have turned around and taken it back and been on the phone with SWA what had "honest mistake" happened, and about when you ETA would be, no matter what time of the night it was.
Segway into your comment, SWA didn't take into consideration......well maybe you weren't either by not wanting to get the valuables and maybe needed content of the person's bag you mistakenly took. (Meds, extra money, etc.) You then were appalled by being asked to return them. (I'm not going to address at all the demeanor of how anyone addressed each other) Also, maybe that is the protocol, if someone doesn't want to return somebody else property immediately, the police are called.
I can only bet you are honest at heart, but you wanted a more favorable solution to your benefit that didn't happen. I can't say your post has gone for not, I will forever going forward double-take the name on the bag before I pick it up...oh, and which is why I have the most outrageous bag already that there really isn't another like it.

You really will be okay. They wont ask about it. All that stuff is perfectly fine to bring through the checkpoint. Prescription meds are almost always good to go. The only time you run into any kind of issue is if you need ice packs. Other than that, you'll be fine. Don't worry. 😊

No. All travel must be completed before the expiration date of the funds. The good news is that you have the whole summer to do something fun.

I'm still clueless as to why people buy business select seats. For the money, you could likely get a first class seat on another airline. I like Southwest, and I realize that "all seats on Southwest are first class", but still...

No airline will provide a hotel voucher if the cancelation is weather related. That isn't just Southwest. I always book travel with a Chase Sapphire Reserve card. If a flight is canceled due to weather, Chase will cover the hotel (food, taxi, etc).

Sorry that you felt 'cheated'!
The travel industry is becoming more and more confusing these days. While there may not have been a need to read the fine print before, it's especially important today. If it helps, I think Southwest is the best when it comes to not having their customers feel 'cheated' - out of many carriers from the US, Southwest is the most straightforward through their Transfarency policy and while the name 'Business Select' could be confusing, I'm sure when you were prompted to upgrade, the kiosk listed what you would be getting in return (ie upgraded boarding, drink coupon, 12 points/dollar, etc), not stating anything about seating.
Southwest's customer service is kind of swamped right now so I do not know if you would get a response, but I would recommend emailing them or tweeting them about your experience. While they may not be able to offer compensation, it's always good to reach out (like what you are doing on this forum) and let the company/other travelers know so that they can be informed.

I was just reminding myself to make the effort to use them (the kick tail awards, not just the drink tickets LOL) . Yes, hoping SWA will send more out.

If your husband is a big guy and would spill in to the next seat he could take advantage of the customer of size policy where he can get a 2nd seat for no charge and it would get him pre boarding and more room however just being tall won’t qualify him for the policy.
if he is just tall then that’s not a reason to preboard. If he has a medical reason then yes he could preboard.

I understand both points of view on Wi-Fi, but since Free Wi-Fi is one of the very few perks of A-List Preferred status it would be nice if it worked better. For me personally, I work in a just in time, on call world, and the option to plug in and interact is a financial benefit to my company and ultimately me.
I will say that when the wi-fi is working (and my phone is in airplane mode), it now rings during flights unless I disable the wi-fi calling feature. Just a bit embarrassing 🙄

You could book a bogus flight that is say $250 then immediately cancel and then you could use the then travel fund plus another voucher
Example
Book flight from AUS-MSY for about $250 applying 2 luv vouchers
Immediately cancel and request refund for the credit card portion
Use the canceled confirmation number to book with another luv voucher
You can also book one ways to use the other vouchers

Sometimes people just need to vent. I think this chat area is great but hearing what southwest would say to the customer may be true, but doesn’t really offer what they came here for many times. I had a similar situation that bumped me into the next day, causing to miss a paid day of Airbnb, car, etc.
This was about 18 months ago and Covid was high, but after calling, I was offered substantial vouchers for all parties. I understand. I had about 9 flights last year with southwest and every flight changed somewhat. They have a business to run, get it. But they also need to keep their customers happy. Hope your vacation was great!
