I haven't noticed any increase in flights with no wi-fi service, but the service has been and continues to be sketchy and sporadic. Something that is new is emailed surveys asking about the quality of the wi-fi service after most every flight.

Unfortunately I do not believe there are any direct commercial flights on any airline between Phoenix and PBI. As far as the quickest path I would suggest flying through Atlanta on what ever airline you choose. As others have suggested Fort Lauderdale is a much bigger airport and does offer non-stops from Phoenix, but as a fairly frequent traveler to South Florida I understand there is a big difference between Fort Lauderdale and and PBI especially if "family" is picking you up at the airport, assuming they can pick you up at the Fort Lauderdale airport is just plain rude, (my 2 cents).

Just a thought, if she can't get it now I would ship it direct to your daughter with insurance and tracking via 2-3 day carrier of your choice. Sounds like she needs it now.
I would have more anxiety about packing it and having TSA inspect it (possibly contaminating opening packages, etc..., or even worse having it stolen since it is valuable at this point.)
My 2 cents your mileage may vary

Unfortunately your initial itinerary ends in Chicago, so no you will need to collect and check your bags to Norfolk.
You could ask in Hawaii but I doubt the Southwest baggage system could handle it.
(Southwest's lack of "redeye" flights is always a challenge when flying east )

First, Sorry for your loss.
Let me preface what I say next with the statement that I am not a fan of EB check-in and would never recommend it for purchase by any passenger.
Unfortunately for you, SWA does not mislead passengers about Early Bird Check-In. They don't promise nor imply that EB purchasers will receive A boarding, only that the EB purchaser's boarding position will be pre-determined prior to the the 24 hour check-in marker. EB check-in is a bad deal for the consumer every time in my opinion.
There is really only 1 way to insure you will board in the A group, Buy a Business Select Fare. This puts you somewhere from A1 to A15. Banking on being able to purchase "upgraded boarding" at the gate or check-in the day of your flight is a complete crap shoot dependent upon there not being 15 Business Select ticket holders and/or other passengers who bought the upgraded boarding before you.
In the end this really comes down to reading before you click to make a purchase and not making assumptions.
Safe travels in the future and again sorry for your loss.

I am sorry to hear you missed the event you wanted to attend, that is very frustrating I am sure.
I noticed you departed from Pensacola, FL. Southwest does not have many flights from this airport nor did your final destination Cleveland, OH. I would recommend you take this in consideration for future reservations and choose an airline with more options or drive to a bigger airport. With only 7 direct flights in/out of Pensacola chances are the SWA crew wasn't late to arrive that morning but that they were just finished their required FAA/DOT off duty rest period from their inbound flight the previous evening.
Just several months ago my flight out of Pensacola to BWI was cancelled and I was rebooked the following morning @06:00 on most likely the same flight number you were on to Nashville but connecting to BWI. I passed on this option because given the limited choices in Nashville and booked a flight on Delta connecting in Atlanta to BWI basically insuring me of options once I landed in Atlanta to get back home.
One other thing- Flying the same day as an event you "must" attend is a recipe for disaster in today's world on any airline. The worst excuse I could ever give a business partner or my family is that I cannot make it because I cut it too close schedule wise.
BTW- As noted by others this a customer to customer forum, that you initiated a post on, and then received responses to your post. "The move on" comment you shared provides insight to me as to why you may have had a bad experience if this is how you interacted with the gate agent.

Boy that 2.9% surcharge would scare me away from paying with a card to get any kind of points unless the dollar value of the points exceeded the cost of the surcharge. As I understand it, currently a Southwest point is worth 1.37 cents and you would be paying 2.9 cents per dollar spent on the Credit card to get 1.37 cents. That's 1.53 cents to the negative.
Other folks here may be able to do the math better but I would have doubts that the value of the points earned would counteract the 2.9% increased cost of every bill you funnel through that method. I could be wrong

Window and Middle seats usually have wider space underneath the seat in front of you between their supports. Underneath the aisle seat is typically more narrow.
If it were me I would recommend the window seat that way no one will jostle the dog if they get up to use the restroom during the flight.

Thinking this is probably due to timing of flights from Washington State and departure times of flights from Houston to Costa Rica, if they can't make a "connection" they won't sell an itinerary as a single ticket.

About the only scale I ever can see visibly is my boarding position on individual flights. I don't fly business select so when I check in and get A-16, I assume I am the most "frequent SWA flyer" on that particular flight. When I pull a A-17 to A-20 I take in the visual of who flies more than me. Occasionally, I get bumped out of the top 5 when someone has a multiple folks on their reservation or is flying with a companion, (this is usually pretty evident.)

Be careful with Flightaware, it a great tool, but you have to make sure you're looking at the whole itinerary of a flight #. SWA flies multiple legs on the same flight number often so you have to drill down sometimes to find exactly what's what.
Today as I sit in DAL Flightaware is changing as I write this, Flight 51 is a hot mess that was flying me to Hobby and coming from Lubbock under the same #, but now due to thunder storms appears to be morphing into another plane that may be coming from Long beach or Tampa
Don't lose faith, my fingers are crossed

As much As I would like to agree with you wholeheartedly, I can't because we as observers cannot know the particular needs of any pre-boarder.
"The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-boarding rule, which is found under 14 CFR 382.93. It instructs airlines: “As a carrier, you must offer preboarding to passengers with a disability who self-identify at the gate as needing time or assistance to board, stow accessibility equip or be seated.”
The US DOT also goes on to state in an additional guidance memo dated May 29, 2013 & isued June 29 2013,
"For a passenger to be entitled to preboarding, that passenger must self-identify at the gate as being a person with a disability that needs to preboard for one of the above-listed reasons,”
Based on the DOT rule and issued guidance, pre boarders should be stating, 1.) they need/want to pre board and 2.) providing one of the above listed reasons they need to pre board.
That being said I do strongly believe that Southwest's existing boarding policies can comply with regulations and work much better if they would simply follow them.

As others have noted it may take awhile for the points to be deposited, 20000 points is nothing to sneeze at. Just make sure you've read all the small print since Booking.com is the source not SWA.
That being said for me personally I book my hotels direct with the chain I focus on. I have tried 3rd party sites a few times but typically I can get a cheaper rate direct. Since most of my travel that is "paid for", is business related, I feel it's my fiduciary responsibility to get the cheapest fare/rate/rental I can within reason.
Direct booking allows me to cancel or make a change without penalty in almost every case because I've built status with the either the hotel or the rental car company. I've overheard many folks holding their paperwork from Booking.com, Expedia.com, and other sites at rental car counters and hotel front desks pleading, demanding, and ultimately taking whatever they can get because they thought they were getting a "deal." Not me, no thank you.
Best of luck and safe travels

It would help to know your origin and destination airports, but even then it may be very difficult to "fix" this situation. Is there still a non-stop flight on the SWA schedule that day? If so maybe try and split the group of 10 so the small kids and elderly are back on the non-stop flight? Have the balance of your group fly on the split flights?
Wish I had more wisdom or tricks to share

Keep in mind, most A-list check in lines are accessible for Business Select Ticket holders too, (they pay extra for their ticket and that is one of the perks.) They may not be A-listers.
As for non-A-lister line jumpers, not much we, as customers can do about that 🙄

This past January I cancelled a RR points flight and rescheduled it about 15 minutes later 2 weeks sooner. The refunded points showed up immediately in my balance. I didn't deplete my points in the repurchase process but the points were basically instantly back in my account.
Now the RR account detail looked a bit wonky with pluses and minuses on the points but the totals were all right

You are free to call my personal experience "BS and crap" that is your right, BUT it does not change the fact that I have personally heard this scam happen. Let me be perfectly clear a discussion I overheard can only be paraphrased here since I did not record the middle aged male and female I eavesdropped on, The women said something like ,"We're in the C group and we won't be able to sit together." The man then said, "I'll just tell them we need to pre board" he then walked up to the desk had a conversation with the SWA rep. which I could not over hear. What did he claim? I have no idea, but they then pre-boarded the flight.
This happened whether you want believe or not so it is not BS and not crap.
Enjoy your day

Wow, quite the heated discussion, our group won't be changing policies, but I do think we can continue to talk about this with the understanding the Southwest's open seating policy literally mandates some of the pre-boarding issues in order to comply with their general open seating policy so they don't discriminate against anyone.
Is the pre-boarding policy being abused? the short answer is yes. I travel alone for the most part so rather than talking to a companion I listen to conversations and have personally over heard folks scheming to pre-board many times.
Yesterday on a flight from Houston, I counted 26 pre-boarders, (that included those in wheel chairs) the majority of folks walked down.
A possible and partial solution that I believe Southwest personnel could implement and comply with Federal law is to simply be trained to ask, "Do you just need some extra time to board?" This question framed correctly will require the folks say "yes" or "no." If they answer "yes" they get an XT and board between the A & B groups. The scammers will have to double down if they say "no" and claim a need to pre-board or take the XT.
Just a thought

do you have the confirmation email and or alpha numeric confirmation #. If you were not not "signed in" to your rapid rewards account when you made the purchase I don't believe the system will know it's you.
You can add you rr# to the ticket once you bring up the confirmation number as long as your name info matches, (middle name, middle initial must match etc.)

I don't believe you can print a boarding pass for any airline until you "check in" either in person or online.
Whether you're checking bags or not, you can secure your boarding pass from the SWA rep. at baggage check. Also the self check in kiosks are easy to use if you just need a paper boarding pass as well, just have the Credit card you used to buy your tickets, It's a good idea to have your alpha numeric confirmation # written down as well.
My octogenarian mother navigates this process with no problem, so age is not a barrier or an excuse.
Safe travels, give yourself an extra 15 minutes to reduce any stress.

Although you haven't said it was at BWI, I will say I have had similar poor communication at BWI, fortunately we did not miss our flight but the problem was more of an airport responsibility issue with poor technology for communication than it was a Southwest issue. The SWA personnel were frustrated by the lack of functionality of "overhead announcements"
