I want to turn this around and explain how this hurts SWA. I have a party of 4 traveling together and paid early bird for each, so say $60 total. I would have been better off booking one business select ticket at a cost of, say $40, and saved the other seats. This results in a 33% reduction in revenue from my purchase. As I said before, this happened three times to me within 5 minutes, I can only imagine what the lost revenue was on this flight alone. Additionally, I’m going to try to be as polite as possible on this one, but the “savers” appear to not be your best customers. I, a SW Premier Card holder who booked my tickets honestly and fairly, lost out on true “open seating” due to rules that are ambiguous at best. Not only does it negatively affect customers such as myself, it results in less overall upgrades because people are aware that they only need one “good” ticket, regardless of the size of their traveling party. This policy (or lack thereof) results in frequent abuse of the system by “savers”, undermines loyal and honest customers like myself and many others out there, and results in less accessorial revenue to the company. Probably should have picked up the clothing and asking if they belonged to anyone then handed it to them and sat down.

"Download Pending" on Android is an issue related to your Google Play Store app. I have seen this when the app you are trying to install is a larger one and the download will wait until you are connected to Wifi. I don't know if that's the case here, but it's worth looking for the setting that allows you to download larger files over cellular connection. The Play Store app could also need to be updated. In summary, this isn't an issue with the Southwest app and googling "Download Pending Android" will have some other suggestions if the above doesn't work for you. --TheMiddleSeat

Theres often some confusion for some customers about Upgraded Boarding vs Business Select. At a kiosk you can upgrade to Business Select. But be careful, if you start the process because it says "for as low as $16" and then cancel when you discover that it's actually several hundred dollars, you will have lost your boarding position in the process, and will be assigned the next available one. (This upgrade charges you the difference between what you originally paid and the full price Business Select fare.) To purchase Upgraded Boarding, you need to see an agent at the gate. (This upgrade costs $30-$50, depending on route.)

@aimeec, sorry that it did not work the way you expected. Did you think about buying two one-way tickets instead of a round trip? One with voucher, one with points? I have a boat load of travel funds, and figured out that I could use more of them booking tickets that way. Keep in mind that even using points, there will still be money due for the taxes and fees (typically $5.60 each direction).

I'm really sorry you had to go that long without any way to get some grub. I get it, because I get hungry sometimes too. I definitely don't want this experience to leave a bad taste in your mouth (pun... intended). Send me a private message and let's see what we can do.

@mcalhoun I am so sorry to hear about your bad experience with the customer service. I have the number at 1 (800) 435-9792 and see if you can talk to someone about problem that you had. For some apparently reasons, the agents may not have time to deal with the customers and you also can call 1-855-234-4654 and see if they can resolve the issues. Hope this will helps.

@lostmydog wrote: Hi - I just want to make sure I am looking at this the right way regarding qualifying for a companion pass via flights ( non credit card points). My work will pay for business select ticket class. So to get a companion pass I have to purchase 18 tickets/segments at let's say $500 per ticket which gets me 12x points for a total of 108k Rapid Reward points? I travel a lot for work between Hou and LGA/DAL so this is not crazy. Just looking to see if this correct and has any one else done this? Appreciate the feed back. Be well, Mo Additionally if you have a Southwest Rapid Rewards Visa you would get 1x points for all purchases, and 1x points for all purchases on Southwest.com on that card, as well as some other perks. (In effect the 12x would be 14x towards companion pass.) I'd strongly consider getting one if you plan to fly that much and purchase those fares, even if all you use it for is Southwest flights. A-list is separate only for the flights, that will remain at 12x for business select fares but based on your pricing and frequency above you'd easily make A-list Preferred as well at some point during the year.

A business credit card is actually "owned" by a combination of a business and a person. Contact Chase -- they'll most likely need an application from the son, and will then either convert the account over to his name or (more likely) open a completely new one for the company using him as the primary account holder. With regards to the Companion Pass, that's owned by the father -- Southwest doesn't have business Rapid Rewards accounts, only personal ones. The son will need to earn a new CP going forward.

Without knowing the specifics of the particular promotion you are interested in, I suspect, unfortunately, that you won't be able to take advantage of the promotion. It is worth giving Southwest Vacations a call though, just to see if there's anything they can do for you. You should be aware that Southwest Vacations and Southwest Airlines are actually two completely different companies. Southwest Vacations is actually Mark Travel, an online travel agent doing business through a marketing agreement with Southwest Airlines. You may possibly find a good package deal through Southwest Vacations (when their promotion terms align with your travel plans), but it's worth noting that complaints about Southwest Vacations' customer service and policies that differ from Southwest Airlines are common. Most importantly, be aware that should you have any problems with Southwest Vacations, all customer service issues will have to be dealt directly with them, and not Southwest Airlines.

Hope this clears up the confusion!

We have called and spoken with 2 different RR employees and they both told us those points don't count towards companion pass. Is this a recent change? Everything I had read about online says otherwise. To my knowledge there have been no program changes, so points earned from hotel bookings made through Southwesthotels.com continue to be Companion Pass Qualifying. Be aware, however, that points will qualify only in the year in which the hotel stay is completed. Meaning, for example, that if you completed a stay in late December 2018, but the points didn't post until 2019, those points will not now show as CPQP because they qualified for 2018, not 2019. Here's a great resource for definitive information regarding Rapid Rewards point tier qualification (TQP) and Companion Pass Qualification (CPQP): 2019 Rapid Rewards® Qualifying Transactions for 2020 Status

You've got the general info correct and should take a look at Southwest's Customer of Size FAQ at https://www.southwest.com/html/generated/help/faqs/extra_seat_policy_faq.html In summary, yes you can purchase an extra seat, yes you are encouraged to preboard, and yes you can get a refund for the second seat. You will need to request Preboarding either at the check-in counter or at the gate, it is not automatic. More details are at the link above. If you have other questions please reply. Enjoy Las Vegas! --TheMiddleSeat

Sorrry to hear this is turning out poorly for you, but themiddleseat is right: this is entirely a Chase problem,. Southwest only does three things in the entire process: 1) Southwest allows Chase to use the Southwest name in advertsing the card 2) Southwest sells RR points to Chase 3) Southwest adds those purchased RR points to your account when Chase tells it to That's it. I have no idea why Chase would have mailed to an address different than the one on your application, but that is something that Chase did, and something Chase will need to fix.

@dfwskier wrote: @MG718 wrote: Regarding carryover/continuing passengers from previous routes on direct flights... What is the most crowded situation you've ever seen? Are we talking like, half the plane is already full when you board? This is a great discussion board, I appreciate everybody's knowledge and enthusiasm! I imagine I'll probably be back again some time. Happy I was able to book with Southwest! Mike Mike, there is no rule of thumb answer to that question. It is dependent on departure city, destnation city, time of year, time of day etc, etc, etc. Given your situation, I think the answer is "not normally enough to impact you." given that there are 40 plus or minus windows seats on a plane and window seats fill up later than aisles and earlier than middle seats. Your greater risk is getting a high B or C boarding position. Again, given your situation, I think you should go for pre boarding, but it's your choice. I think you'll be fine, but if you decide to request pre-boarding once or twice this year as a fellow passenger I wouldn't feel put out at all. One scenario for high through passengers is service to a regional airport. Southwest in prior years had run a sort of a "wheel" where flights went from HOU-PNS-BNA and a separate route was going BNA-PNS-HOU. There seemed to be a large number of people that needed to get between BNA and HOU and either a lack of direct flights or other connections so that the planes going in and out of PNS were always full, but only half to 2/3 were going to PNS. There might also be flights going to LAS or MCO that originate at an airport with limited service and then stops in a larger hub like MDW or DEN and people stay on the plane. One way to avoid these is that you can check the flight number in Google (or flight aware or other tracking sites) and tell that the flight number continues all day, or if it originates at your home airport. Then, as a tie-breaker only because none of us think this is a big deal overall, you could prefer flight numbers that originate at your airport if the timing is comparable when choosing between a couple of options that work for you.

Yes, but there's no rule (that I can find) prohibiting chewing tobacco, just cigarettes. --TheMiddleSeat I think this came up once before and it wasn't specifically prohibited that any of us could find. If the flight was lightly occupied then I would recommend to check with the FA about relocating. You could also mention to the gentleman to swap seats so he's on the window and you and your co-worker wouldn't have that between you.

Themiddleset is right, if you in a country served be the airline, clear your cache and try using southwest.com If you are not in a country served by the airline, it is entirely possible that the website is not available in your country. If so, try using the Southwest phone app IN CELL DATA MORE (not wifi), or try using a US based VPN on your computer.

Not to beat a dead horse, but here was another article on the topic. I guess United canceled a huge chunk of its flights at O'Hare as well. https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/news/airlines-resorting-to-extraordinary-measures-to-protect-airport-workers-in-extreme-cold/ar-BBSVESn?ocid=spartanntp Agreed, if they start canceling en masse, then usually there will also be a storm advisory where you can move up your flight, but that may not work if your route is already busy and there aren't any empty seats. Good luck, I hope you make it on schedule Friday at least and get this ordeal put behind you.

In that scenario I think whoever makes the booking will determine whose account is setup to receive the points.

I haven't been personally to MEX airport, but don't worry, there won't be any opportunity for you to not to make it directly to customs. My feedback from other international travel to Mexico though - try to use the restroom right before the seatbelt light gets turned on prior to landing so that you don't have to get out of the line to use the land-based one until after you are cleared. And don't bring any fruit with you from the plane.
