@CNoll wrote: In 2017 i reserved AND paid for hotel rooms for others that i booked thru SW just for the bonus points. The points did go into my account. Trying to do same thing this year but I am told by SW Customer Service that only the guest staying in the room is eligible to receive the points. Anyone else hear the same? Hello. I think the rule is that the person who makes the reservation AND checks in at the hotel gets the points. So if you reserve 4 rooms for a single stay for your party, and pay for 4 rooms, and you check in at the hotel , then you'd get all points tied to that single reservation for 4 rooms. I don't think you can earn points for a stay, where someone other than you checks in. Now there is one point of clarification. There are RR points issued by SW for hotel stays, and I think what I said above applies to these points. Some hotels issue their own RR points. I don't know what happens if someone reserves a room thru the hotel specific site, and then gives the hotel someone else's RR # .

Delays are always fluid and can change at a given moment. All airlines are reluctant to post a delay before considering every available alternative. Is there another aircraft available? Is this a quick maintenance fix or is the aircraft out-of-service? If weather is on the way, is it possible to board and depart to beat the weather or should the flight be delayed until the weather has passed? The problem with posting a lengthy delay is you're giving the passengers an expected departure time that may not be accurate. For example, if maintenance determines that an aircraft will take two hours to repair and a two-hour delay is posted, passengers may leave the gate area and not return until two hours later. If maintenance ends up repairing the aircraft in only one hour, the flight either departs and leaves the passengers who left the gate behind, or takes an additional hour delay waiting for all the passengers to return. It's a no win situation. Waiting until two minutes before departure to post the delay is cutting it a little close, though.

In addition to what @bec102896 said, there are some situations where fliers would not be eligible for a boarding pass. From SW's site: "All passengers that are eligible to obtain a printed boarding pass should be able to utilize the mobile boarding pass option. However, passengers traveling on certain types of fares may not be eligible. Infants, unaccompanied minors, individuals traveling on Senior Fares that need to be age verified, nonrevenue passengers, and Military Fares are not eligible to receive a mobile boarding pass."

You can obtain your boarding pass (You don't have to print it. You get get it on your phone) any time after the 24 hour in advance mark and before you get to TSA.

Hi again. The fact that booking.com hasn't contacted you is pretty disappointing. I'd advise e-mailing them, AND slamming them on twitter, facebook, YELP, and any other on-line rating platform you can think of. Bad public press does wonders in encouraging companies to be responsive. I fully understand why you never want anything to do with the company again, but it appears this was your first bad experience with it. Only you can say whether or not this experience was so aggregious that it deserves "one strike and you are out." Booking.com finally did rectify the problem, admitedly at great discomfort to you. 10,000 points spent on a wanna get away fare is roughly worth $150. Only you can say whether or not your experience was so distasteful that you are willing to forgo that type of opportunity in the future.

I tried it but the $100+ fare difference wasn’t worth it! I was flying from MDW to LGA with a connection in STL. Both flights from MDW had the same connection flight so I was wondering if I could take the late one to reduce my layover from 4 to 1 hours . I asked and it Didn’t work ! But it was fun trying

"Are you wondering if you can see what date is the cheapest from A-B? If so there is the low fare calendar where you can view cheapest dates " THAT is the best way to find the lowest fares, IMO. Checking more than once is also a good idea as SW fares do go up AND down. The problem with using the published fare sale information is that the lowest fares sometimes are below the fares shown as the sale fare. For example, I regularly fly from Dallas to Chicago, and from Dallas to Denver, and I can almost always find fares lower then the stated "sale" fares between those airports. The only way that is revealed is via the low fare calendar. Signing up to receive fare sale e-mails is a good thing to do, but you need to dig a bit deeper. edit add: there is one exception to what I've said, and that exception is if SW runs a "distance based" fare sale (ie flights up to 499 miles cost $X, flights from 500 - 749 miles cost $Y , etc). Note that not all flights will be priced as such but SOME will be. These fare sales normally are a good deal. Southwest has historically run sales like this a few times a year. Interestingly the one that was run a few months ago, was not mileage based. So Southwest may have decided to not do this any more. We'll have to wait for the next one to see. Good luck.

The best advice I can give you would be to use the mobile southwest site. Sure it may be a pain to log in every time but works just fine for checking points, booking tickets, or checking In and you can screen shot the mobile boarding pass as well should you want to use mobile boarding. If you don't don't like that option then unfortunately you would have to upgrade to a newer phone or get a cheap tablet as @rtbarron suggested. hope this helps Blake

@joechenevey wrote: I just had this happen to me (also A-List Preferred with Companion Pass) for the very first time on a family vacation that I booked with points close to 2 months in advance. In my case, I got B-20 a flight to PHX. So is it concievable that there at least 45 (excluding Business Select A1-A15) other A-list Preferred on this flight that booked as far in advance as I did? Plus another 19 people who got assigned ahead of me in the B boarding group? This definitely sounds like a software glitch. There were some reports of this happening when the new ticketing system first came out, but I hadn't heard on this community any more about it and assumed it was fixed. @joechenevey wrote: It's a really nice benefit for A-listers who don't get an A boarding pass to board after the A boarding group, that doesn't help much when you're also travelling with family. That's the other part of my story. I purchased early-bird check-in for the rest of my family (so that I don't have to try to save seats) and they got B boarding group as well. I realize early-bird doesn't guarantee you A boarding group, but it's happens more often than not. For whatever reason the travel gods were not kind to me and I got a double whammy of not getting any of us in the A group. That's the oddity of it. As you noted, the only thing I can do is to possibly purchase upgraded boarding. You should be able to let the gate agent know that you would normally board at "A61" as an A-list preferred member, but that you'll be deferring that position to board with your EBCI family. (Or board at A61 and hold some spots, it isn't like you weren't supposed to be boarding much earlier probably around that same position or better.)

@fungible wrote: Hello, I'm trying to fly from BOS to LAX. I found a flight with a connection in MDW, but I discovered that it is actually cheaper to book the two segments (BOS-MDW and MDW-LAX) separately. I'm wondering if there is any risk in booking these two flights under a multi-city itinerary? For example, in the past, when I had a flight with connections and one of the flight segments was delayed or cancelled, I was able to be rebooked on another flight to my destination for free. If a cancellation or delay happens, would I not be able to be rerouted for free under the multi-city booking? I'm speculating a little bit, in combination with @bec102896's reply - Southwest won't want you to assemble a multiple city path when a packaged option is available. Them having a four-hour restriction migth accomplish a couple of things: Keeps people from optimizaing a few bucks on multiple one-ways where a published connection exists. Protects the flyer by providing re-booking for irregular operations where the separate one-ways might be re-booked with discretion of the gate agent, but don't seem to be obligated to be rebooked. Protects flyers that don't realize they may need to re-check baggage etc. - for a saavy flyer it might be fine, but they don't want people to accidentally do this and have a problem on the day of travel that could have been prevented. So anyway for your question - how much does it save, and I expect that it isn't using exactly the same flights as the published connection? I don't think this is worth it over less then $50 personally unless you plan to actually do something in Chicago for a few hours - the risk of a flight schedule hiccup becomes yours to some degree instead of Southwest's. (Especially at Midway, depending when the trip is weather could be a risk.)

I would take that over an August flight out of LGA with no AC any day (another airline). Unfortunately, it is a tough situation; I would rather be cold than be delayed. As for the flight attendant interaction; that sound very unlike a SW employee. As other have said, I would encourage you to store your thoughts directly with the airline.

Travel can get tough when you thrown an emergency into the mix! Sometimes, you just have to balance the cost to the need. I see it this way: 1) SW offers so much flexibility for changing flight and keeping fees away or low. If that means they have to be strict on the policies that do make them money, I’m ok with that, even if it sucks. 2) As a parent, I would just want to make it home. Period. I do understand your frustration, however. I encourage you to offer your feedback directly to SW, and I hope your child is back to healthy now!

I totally understand your concern! As a Hilton Diamond member, I always want to ensure that I will received my benefits and -- more importantly -- points for my stay. I always assume that if you don't book direct, you don't get the benefits. But I know there are exceptions (such as booking with Concur). Also, you can earn SW points for hotel bookings; I doubt you would be able to "double dip." I am making assumptions here, but I just wanted to share my thoughts.

Unfortunately, in my experience once Southwest has failed to give you a hotel discount voucher at the airport (for whatever reason), it's nearly impossible to get reimbursement for a hotel you booked yourself after the fact, regardless of the circumstances. 😞 As suggested earlier, you may be given a small voucher toward future travel as a goodwill gesture. Please do let us know how it works out.
