Every airline handles it the same way.
Anytime someone tries to travel on a day than is different than on the original ticket, that person has to pay the prevailing price for that flight. In essence it is treated as a new ticket, and you are using the dollars from the original reservation to pay for it.
If the new flight costs less, you get a travel fund for the delta in price. If the new flight costs more, you have to pay the delta in price.

I tried that. The representative was positive he could do it. He got to the point of paying the fees and then he got the same message I did. I called several times to see if I would luck out with someone else.
He was very sweet and trying to help. He put in something to help escalate it, but I haven't heard anything yet... I have several more trips to book. Prices are going up and I am out of options at this point.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Southwest was not in sole possession of your bag for the duration of your trip.
Southwest had access when you checked it in.
TSA had access to it at your departure airport.
Airport employees had access to it as it moved thru your departure airport.
Southwest had access to it as it loaded the plane.
Southwest had access to it as it was taken off the plane at your arrival airport.
Arrival airport employees had access to it as it moved thru the arrival airport.
Southwest had access to it to load it on the carousel.
Who tried to pry your bag open (if that is what really happened)? No one will ever know, but it could have been some person not tied to Southwest at all.

Unfortunately I do not believe there are any direct commercial flights on any airline between Phoenix and PBI. As far as the quickest path I would suggest flying through Atlanta on what ever airline you choose. As others have suggested Fort Lauderdale is a much bigger airport and does offer non-stops from Phoenix, but as a fairly frequent traveler to South Florida I understand there is a big difference between Fort Lauderdale and and PBI especially if "family" is picking you up at the airport, assuming they can pick you up at the Fort Lauderdale airport is just plain rude, (my 2 cents).

I'm sorry for what you experienced, that is definitely a frustrating experience.
First, safety first, if a pilot things the tire needs further examination, it should be done as that can lead to even worse problems.
I know this is definitely not helpful now, but in the future, sometimes if you pull aside a flight attendant and ask them about your tight connection, especially if you attach a truthful story of needing to make it otherwise you'll miss the "insert event here," they will contact the people on the ground, and they'll do everything they can for you to make the connection. It's not guaranteed because they want to affect the least amount of passengers, but sometimes asking them while in the air helps a lot (be sure to be friendly when doing so). I know it seems unnecessary because "customer service" but like I said, they try to affect the least number of passengers, so that often means not holding a flight for a singular passenger. Plus, you may have made the flight, but your checked bag wouldn't have and people would still be complaining. It's really a lose-lose for the airline, as they seem to not be able to do anything right in the eyes of some people.

Just a thought, if she can't get it now I would ship it direct to your daughter with insurance and tracking via 2-3 day carrier of your choice. Sounds like she needs it now.
I would have more anxiety about packing it and having TSA inspect it (possibly contaminating opening packages, etc..., or even worse having it stolen since it is valuable at this point.)
My 2 cents your mileage may vary

It seems rather small for Southwest, with limited leisure and business traffic. Southwest flies to some pretty small airports (Bellingham, Hayden/Steamboat Springs, Montrose, Fresno, Corpus Christi, Harlingen). All of these are still bigger than Fayetteville, NC because they have either decent leisure or business traffic. If Southwest were to serve Fayetteville, NC, it would likely be to one airport, likely Baltimore or Atlanta. However, I would think that Southwest would just serve these people through RDU.

Window and Middle seats usually have wider space underneath the seat in front of you between their supports. Underneath the aisle seat is typically more narrow.
If it were me I would recommend the window seat that way no one will jostle the dog if they get up to use the restroom during the flight.

Your problem is one of two things:
A) There are no valid connecting flights on the days you want to travel .or.
B) The connections involve more than one plane change. Southwest does not allow 2 or more plane changes on a given routing.
I'd suggest
1) Use the reservation system to find out the time the flight out of Houston is supposed to depart .then.
2) Do the same to find out the time your flight to Houston is supposed to arrive in Houston
If your arrival in Houston is too close to the departure from Houston, then the problem is A above
If your flight to Houston requires a plane change, then your problem is B above

About the only scale I ever can see visibly is my boarding position on individual flights. I don't fly business select so when I check in and get A-16, I assume I am the most "frequent SWA flyer" on that particular flight. When I pull a A-17 to A-20 I take in the visual of who flies more than me. Occasionally, I get bumped out of the top 5 when someone has a multiple folks on their reservation or is flying with a companion, (this is usually pretty evident.)

Be careful with Flightaware, it a great tool, but you have to make sure you're looking at the whole itinerary of a flight #. SWA flies multiple legs on the same flight number often so you have to drill down sometimes to find exactly what's what.
Today as I sit in DAL Flightaware is changing as I write this, Flight 51 is a hot mess that was flying me to Hobby and coming from Lubbock under the same #, but now due to thunder storms appears to be morphing into another plane that may be coming from Long beach or Tampa
Don't lose faith, my fingers are crossed

I've been an A-Lister for about 7 years and did also use to get the card. I know it is a to each their own, but I never carried the card with me, and was never asked for it. Much like was mentioned, attendant would look at the next in line and ask, "are you AList or business preferred? I don't think I've ever seen anyone say no, nor have I ever seen somebody moved out of the line for not being one. But honestly, I guess it comes down to who the ticket attendant is, some may enforce it, some may not. What I may mention, this is as recently as 2 weekends ago, in SWA home hub, there was no ALIST line anywhere, and I was even more amazed to see there was no TSA bypass there either.

It is unclear how they can help when they are surrounded by barricades.
The ramp is pitifully small for oversized items, and the attendant just sits there and does nothing to help keep it organized. Are they supposed to offload? Can they provide any information? What exactly is their purpose for being there? They're not even positioned to be able to see what's going on with the items coming on the ramp. Ridiculous and inefficient use of space, and waste of money to pay someone to just sit doing absolutely nothing.
In some airports, there is someone to offload the oversized item off the ramp, in other airports, the ramp is sized so bags/items can be sorted by the owner easily. (think airports serving ski areas).
I'd love to know what they're supposed to be doing. Next time in BWI baggage claim, I'll ask them.

I've searched history. Newest comment I could find was 2019 so I'll ask again.
We are older and so not so comfortable with smart phones. We like an old fashioned paper boarding pass but will not have access to a printer after the 24 hr check in.
The kiosk can be a struggle for early AM flights when your running late, half awake and anxious to get through security.
I chatted with SW who offered no help. I think you used to be able to do a" faux check in" and get the print option. It seems SW may have removed this convenience?
Do the check-in however you were doing it at 24 hours, without a printer. That secures your position. Text it to yourself and you can save the graphic to easily log in for printing the next day at the airport.
Then:
a) if you are checking any luggage it won't add a minute to get printed boarding passes too. Curbside can even do this if you check with that approach. Tip the person a few bucks and I'd ask them just to print the passes without checking. When you checked-in the day before you secured your number, so you are already checked in, now you are only completing the process by printing it.
b) if having only carry-ons you can still use the self-service kiosk to self-service print boarding passes only. show the texted pass to the scanner and your reservation will come right up. you are already checked in from before and keep your number, you are just getting a pass printed the same day.
Either way getting a pass printed at the airport is only a minute or two if there's a big line. If you are running that far behind then it isn't the passes that are holding you back. Checking luggage can have a big line, that's where I would get anxious if habitually cutting it close. (I'm a poster child for this.)

This past January I cancelled a RR points flight and rescheduled it about 15 minutes later 2 weeks sooner. The refunded points showed up immediately in my balance. I didn't deplete my points in the repurchase process but the points were basically instantly back in my account.
Now the RR account detail looked a bit wonky with pluses and minuses on the points but the totals were all right
