Interesting idea, as you've seen, typically internships are geared towards people enrolled in college courses. The Destination 225 program does appear to be open to everyone, but is for recruiting and training pilots. I haven't seen a similar program for other careers at Southwest. Good luck with whatever path you decide to take. --TheMiddleSeat

Re. “a guy bleeding from his leg sitting in a wheelchair” If the guy was literally bleeding from an open wound, from an infection control perspective, this is commonly and technically known as “bad” – especially if someone is boarding a crowded plane for a well-contained flight. First of all, if the guy bleeding has an open wound, he himself is way open to bacteria and significant risk of infection, particularly in a crowded, closely contained, not very clean, commercial airplane environment. Secondly, if this is an open wound, those who might come into contact with the guy, or his blood from a surface, are at risk of contracting anything he may be carrying. This could be any type of blood-borne illnesses like hepatitis B or C, staph, or any other virus the person may have. Blood is a fabulous transmitter for illness. Additionally, bloodborne viruses can live outside the body and still cause infection. For example, the Hep B virus can live for as long as a week outside the body in dried blood, and Hep C for up to four days. One might also think there is a decent chance that a guy boarding a plane with a bleeding open wound is not in the best of health or under the best of care. To allow a passenger to have an uncovered, bleeding wound, while boarding and flying on a plane is staggering to me. And people usually look at me funny after I sit down, pull out my Lysol wipes, and clean every surface around me that I might touch. Southwest – Apparently you have a new protocol to implement, and/or further training to provide your employees.

Posts like this always puzzle me. I wonder what exactly 'happened' 3 years ago to an individual / family to make Southwest issue over $1,000 worth of vouchers. Missed connection? Missed flight? Something else? Considering your user name is 'upset mom of three', I am willing to bet the farm that the compensation had something to do with your kids. You had an entire year to use the funds, that's plenty of time. Sorry, but without more detail regarding your situation, I am not very sympathetic to whatever issue you or your family might have suffered, especially considering you are complaining about it now, on a public forum, 3 years later. --Jessica

My typical policy is to never check bags because I seem to (mentally) need a lot of flexibility when I travel. Flight delayed because of the incoming plane? Look for another route. Flight delayed because something wrong with the weather? Consider bailing out and leaving the next day. Connection problems requires an overnight stay? Bag at hand means quicker to hotel and faster to sleep. In a hurry when landing? No waiting at baggage claim. Cancelled flight with a driveable destination? Abandon flight and first at rental car counter. At 5’5”, I don’t have your stature challenge, and I have learned to pack as light as I can get 5 days of dress clothes in a standard roller bag. I used to be on planes 2-6 times per week, so I wanted all the flexibility I could achieve. But it certainly is a Southwest perk. That is one of the best things about Southwest. Lots of perks to choose from. My personal favorite? No change fees. happy travels!

Looks like you earned A-List in 2018 which gives you A-List status until the end of 2019. Surprise! Lol, no need to buy EarlyBird Check-In. You can verify your status in your account, log in on southwest.com then go to My Account. At the top of the My Account screen it will say if you are A-List and when it expires. If you are not A-List it will just say "Member". --TheMiddleSeat

In this case, I don't think the $ amount of the funds matter, but the expiration date of the original ticket. Are you saying that when you cancelled your flight you were not able to use the funds because they expired before you could use them? --Jessica

@jtminneapolis wrote: This is the complaint......Companion flyers are a reward for spending a boat load of money and being loyal to SWA airlines in order to qualify. They ruin the experience of a "reward" when the companion is not treated like the member. Why can the not attach the companion ticket to the Rewards Member and check them simultaneously. The reward program is great and appreciated....they are meant to incent loyalty, and say thank you. When your companion has to wait to get on the plane separately, putting the rewards member in the position of "saving" a seat just takes away from the experience. With volume of pre-boarders growing, then the A-Listers, then family boarding, the purchase of Early bird has proven to be absolutely worthless. In fact, I bought early bird for my wife and got B43. What a waste of money!!! You can always buy an a1-a15 spot (if available) at the gate. It's amazing how many people who benefit from companion pass to the tune of thousands or tens of thousands of dollars a year find something to complain about. Does ANY other airline provide an equivalent benefit?

@ffflyer wrote: Another SW problem that could be resolved with assigned seats. That ain't happening. Southwest gains significant operational efficiency from the boarding process. It boards it's planes faster than the competition, which in turn allows it to get more flights/day from it's planes. The system provides SW with higher revenue and profit. Those that want assigned seats can fly the competition and can pay the seat choice, bag fee, change fee, and travel fund charges that come from that competition. Most SW customers are OK with the way things are. After all, SW does fly more people in the lower 48 than any other airline -- and has done so for years.

The eventual safety of the MAX depends of course on what changes -- software, hardware and training -- will be required by the FAA and other governing organizations internationally before the planes can fly again. While this situation certainly generates concern, unfortunately it's somewhat unrealistic to expect to never fly on a MAX aircraft again, unless one is willing to make significant concessions -- ones that approach the eventual complete reduction of air travel. MAX is the only aircraft Southwest has on order, and over time will represent the majority of their fleet. As the best selling aircraft in history (based on current orders), in 5-10 years it will be hard to avoid. That said, Southwest has stated that in the short term passengers with concerns will be able to change their flights to another aircraft type when necessary. As to seat width and overall comfort, various types of planes certainly differ, but Southwest is firmly on the higher end when comes to regular coach seating. I'm certainly not a fan of the new slimline "Heart" seats, but they do offer the appearance of better width compared to other 737 configurations. These seats are primarily in MAX and 800 aircraft.

If I remember correctly any layover that is part of a one way reservation on Southwest would be limited to 4 hours anyway, and that's IF you could find one that happened to stop in Indianapolis. The best way to handle this would be to book a multi city trip or make multiple one way reservations, Newark or Laguardia to Indy, then Indy to your west coast destination. Then you can control how much time you spend in Indianapolis. --TheMiddleSeat

For some reason it doesn't appear that you can book a flight from the mainland to KOA, at least not yet. I tried to do this a few months ago, flying from DEN. The workaround is to book to either HNL or OGG, then book an inter-island flight from there to KOA. When you check in your bags in Dallas use the full service desk and you can request the bags be checked through to KOA instead of having to pick them up in HNL or OGG and rechecking them, just have the confirmation number for your inter-island flight handy in case the agent wants to see it. You'll need to do all the same booking and bag check workarounds to get back to the mainland from KOA. --TheMiddleSeat

I did that once at Midway, but discovered the problem before boarding my flight. Went to TSA, and they returned it to me. I'd suggest you call TSA at your originating airport to ask if they have it. You can ask in person upon your return. The middleseat is right, you actually don't absolutely need it. Advice, take a picture of the front and back of your license with your cell phone. At the very least, the photo will assist with the replacement process at DMV.

Sorry I didn’t put the excerpt, there is a different allowance for fishing gear: Fishing tackle box and fishing rod, so long as the rod is encased in a cylindrical fishing rod container suitable to Carrier for withstanding normal Checked Baggage handling without sustaining damage to the rod. Fishing rod containers may measure up to three inches in diameter and 91 inches in length.
