Additionally, if a WGA fare says 1 seat left that is probably just at that fare and after that 1 is sold there will most likely still be WGA fares available at a slightly higher price. 1 left on Business Select fare is a different story and more likely to indicate flight is selling out. Even if it sells out there are often last minute cancellations that would allow you to add your companion to the flight within 24 hours of departure. Southwest's no fee change policy means people often make changes, freeing up seats close to departure. --TheMiddleSeat

Certainly we apologize if there was any miscommunication in the past. Allow me to clarify that Customer Relations is able to search by the Customer's confirmation number to locate paper vouchers issued in the airport and send a an email replacement in every case as long as it's still within the validity period.

'In my experience, points for flights always post quickly after you complete travel for each reservation (i.e. the return leg of a round trip)." That's been my experience, elijah. You hit on a key point though. Points post as soon as a one way reservation flight is complete, but not until both flights of a round trip reservation have been completed.

@miselaineious So sorry you never got a response back in May! In short, I would not risk it if it were me. If everything is perfectly on time and you can wrangle the kids efficiently, you might be ok, but I think it would be more stress that it is worth. That is just my opinion. Generally, SW does a great job managing connecting passenger, but when they do hold planes for connecting passengers, you need to move QUICKLY to your connecting flight since they are holding a whole plane for a few passengers. My recommendation would be to go the safe route with a longer connection time.

@jodywhip I just took a look, and in November, there are daily options from both airports. They are not direct, but they are there. I hope that helps!

Even though EWR is out, note that there are still non-stop options from to and from MCO on Saturdays at LGA. I know that is not MCO, but it could be an options. Fares are nice over the next month as well (as of right now). Also note that there are affordable direct options several times a day to and from MCO daily at ISP on Long Island. I get that ISP is a haul from Jersey, but it could be an option. Similar to LGA, fares over the next month are pretty reasonable (again, as of right now). I hope that helps!

If you make changes, your EBCI purchase will follow your reservation as long as it is a change to the existing reservation with the same confirmation number. So in short, yes. From SW's site: "EarlyBird Check-In is tied to the Customer’s reservation for which the EarlyBird Check-In purchase was made and will be transferred to the Customer’s new flight if he/she changes the flight at least 25 hours prior to the original flight’s scheduled departure time and so long as the change is to a flight that will depart in more than 25 hours. Since EarlyBird Check-In is associated with a reservation, any changes must be made within the same reservation record (same confirmation number) in which the Customer purchased EarlyBird Check-In." You can also learn more at the Knowledge Base. We had this happen recently, and I was able to work the change in our favor to a more favorable flight time. Hope it works that way for you too, @Mwarnold1222!

Additional note: while the points from credit card purchases belong to the primary card holder, he or she can use Rapid Rewards points from there account to book travel for others, if desired.

@wishinonstars86, I have not used that car seat on a SW flight, but you can look here to get the seat dimensions. That said, I echo the recommendation of the CARES harness! Finally, check out this Knowledge Base article about flying with kids. Good luck!

You may also want to see if they are able to help you with a refund via the chat function within the Southwest app, I've had speedy and knowledgeable help the two times I've used for other topics.

A bit of a side note, but others already mentioned they use TSA PreCheck so I’ll just throw in my two cents and suggest it as well. I know it seems super annoying that you have to pay for it, but if you are flying enough to make A-List you really, really should give in and pay the $85 for 5 years of PreCheck. Yes, it’s all a joke and paying extra to be treated like a human is ridiculous, BUT the theater that is TSA screening is sooooo much more tolerable with PreCheck. If you do any international travel paying the extra $15 ($100 total) for Global Entry is super wonderful, letting you breeze through Customs. Just one trip in the 5 years justifies the additional cost. I also opted to purchase Clear which is a bit of a stretch to justify, but I appreciate the individualized service their offer and they have been very helpful getting me PreCheck-lite service when PreCheck is closed. And yes, TSA does control which airline priority lines are open so saying something to Southwest may get them to say something to TSA, but focus your annoyance at TSA, not Southwest. --TheMiddleSeat

Awesome! Previously I would either keep checking app and/or my third-party apps, or and re-download the boarding pass if I wanted to keep a new record of it with any changes.

Actually, when I click on your link the dates shown are 11/5 and 11/9. When I click the one way button, the 11/9 date is not zeroed out it is shaded gray, but is still there. When I change the 11/5 date to 11/7, I find 11/7 flights available -- same if on that page, I pick 11/9, but on the 11/9 page I then select 11/10 I get the error message you refer to. Why? The 11/9 returm date is still in the system - shaded dark gray, but it's still there. , and you can;t book an outbound that is later than the return. Solution: start on the book a flight page: https://www.southwest.com/air/booking/index.html?clk=GSUBNAV-AIR-BOOK

The FAA did recently announce a ban on certain models of MacBooks that Apple recalled due to battery issues. You can read the more about the ban here: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/airline-news/2019/08/14/faa-bans-macbook-pro-models-flights-apple-recall/2006200001/ As for actually flying with one, no one is going to do any actual screening or questioning to see you have a recalled model or one that is "safe". As was the case with the Samsung ban awhile back, it's up to you the traveler to do the right thing. No, TSA will not do anything differently so no need to alter your expectations there. --TheMiddleSeat

I keep earning myself - the points are now twice as valuable with a companion pass! The one change to habits as long as you aren’t chasing A-list or ALP is to use points bookings for personal travel the rest of the year, and back to paying for flights January 1.

@Beerlev wrote: Are flight cancellations and the subsequent costs (hotel, lodging, etc) covered by Southwest? Or possibly by travel insurance (paid with AMEX)? Echoing the comment to check coverage with AMEX. Many insurance providers will not pay unless your flight is cancelled so if you were to rebook on your own before you receive a formal cancellation notification then you may not be reimbursed for your additional expenses. Save all documentation and receipts! Edit to add: Insurance provided will vary greatly depending on the provider so always check with the issuing company. Some travel insurance companies may be more proactive with their approaches.

Orlando International Airport (MCO) just announced that they will cease commercial flights on Monday at 2am if you have flights Monday or Tuesday I recommend changing your flight now before flights fill up for late week. edit: good news MCO has decided not to close Monday at 2am since the storm track has shifted delays/cancellations are still possible though so be sure to check your flight status before heading to the airport.

@theflightman wrote: Wouldn't SW be better off giving me the seat on the earlier flight and then possibly selling my now empty seat of the full later flight? Because the fares vary in price on Southwest’s scale they would have an issue with people buying the lowest price which for them can be much lower, and substituting for a higher price flight. They also want to save those spots for A-list or last minute business select purchases as a priority. Specifically trading you from a full flight to one with open seats - hard to say. Both flights at the time were probably priced at business select or anytime fares only. It seems like the airline would benefit from shifting you but we don’t know what they were expecting for A-list or BS fare at the last minute. Unless you hang around that other flight you don’t know what they actually ended up departing with. Next time wander down the concourse and try again, you might get a different answer from another person, or as things change until the last minute on the earlier flight. They may be more likely to put you on it towards departure time for even money if the seats are still empty then as opposed to 1-2 hours before.
