I completely get what you are saying bbland. I feel the same way. I have several pieces of luggage for differing situations. Seems most of the replies don't get it.
One specific situation is a carryon for Southwest, i.e. 24x16x10. I actually have an older travelpro but it is not a spinner, just a two-wheeler. Harder to pull and definitely won't roll down the aircraft aisle, like a spinner that you can turn sideways. Its green, which unfortunately sometimes deceives the boarding agent and I have to prove it meets their rules by putting it in the sizer and they are astonished that it is perfectly sized, wheels and all. The wheels are somewhat recessed. It would be too big for other airlines and international. I bought it in an online clearance sale 5 years ago and not seen one since.
The best alternative would be the Travelpro Crew VersaPack Max Carry-on Rollaboard Spinner. It is 55 Liters interior volume vs the one that another responder suggested (49L) and half the cost at $200. It is 23x15.5x10 (or 2" thicker if you expand it, which I have found to be just fine, especially in the MAX 737's). That's including wheels, etc. So you are still not getting the maximum size for southwest, but awfully close. Very stable and easy to roll. I ditched the interior folding board for extra space.
https://travelpro.com/collections/standard-carry-on-luggage-and-suitcases/products/crew%E2%84%A2-versapack%E2%84%A2-max-carry-on-expandable-rollaboard%C2%AE?variant=20372015284322
There are actually a couple of 24x16x10 carryons I have found online, but they are cheap and cant possibly match the travelpro quality.

That’s what I thought. But no one from southwest or chase can explain why I only got 4,500 tier points on $21,000+ in spend.

Traveling with a wedding dress is a whole new level of adventure, right? I also had to travel with my dress and men's wedding suits once. I remember securing that extra seat for these, too – I had a mini celebration with the flight attendants. Safe travels on your dress escapades!

I'm trying to get a status match with Delta. They require a physical or digital membership card. Anyone know where to get one? I've been A-List Preferred and Companion Pass for years, but don't remember the last time I got a card. Anyone had luck completing the status match without a membership card?
Due to a trip beyond the continent I recently had the need to status match on United and they were able to use a screenshot of the RR page.
Unfortunately it came through as Silver and then shortly after I made ALP which would have been Gold for them, dang!
So anyway TL;DR: yes, but not with Delta.

Involuntary bump can happen to anyone, it does not limit to companions. I've enjoyed many free flights from my companion pass and no other airline provides such a beneficial perk. It appears you obtained the companion pass via a promotional offer on credit card sign up. The standard expiration is the remainder of the year you earned it in AND the entire next calendar year. That's a pretty sweet deal. You're welcome to do what you want, I just don't agree with the thinking.

Since when did Southwest start increasing Business Select prices closer to flight time. Went to upgrade a flight today & instead of $120 fare difference it was over $300. In the past, lower class fare prices fluctuated, but never Business Select.
Some of the routes have the BS fare lowered compared to what it used to be three years ago, where they all used to be about the same now sometimes you can find some $300 range and some $500 range on the same routes.
Anyway to answer your question I've only seen the changes over the past couple of years, but my observation was that some were lower than before. I haven't tracked any routes where I've seen the price change after it was announced but there certainly isn't anything that would prevent them from changing the price other than that they never did it before.

Yeah, that's the policy. Sucks to learn the hard way, but now you know. Here's the actual policy from southwest.com "If you book with a combination of these payments, the travel fund adopts the expiration date of the fund that expires soonest." --TheMiddleSeat

@rpw It has now been at least 8 flights flown that my wife (companion) is given the next number to mine. And again, SWA does it with automatic check-in and we no longer are prisoners to having to check-in 24 hours ahead of time ourselves.. I love you, SWA.

I saw (and have experienced) that SW cancels the seat of a higher value. In my case within a few days they cancelled the seat I had paid for (and left the companion pass). One interesting thing was they refunded me in the method I had paid (Credit card for part, Vouchers for part). This is likely a better way to swap from a paid seat to a companion pass since you get $ back. Anyone else experience something similar?

It’s probably for the protection of your nieces RR account and also yours. Why yours you may ask well what if I got ahold of your account number and now I called and changed the Companion to me even though you don’t know me well now you would be down 1 of the 3 changes per year. Also some people have the same name so they want to make sure they put the right person as the Companion. Personally i would wonder why the 2nd agent didn’t ask for verifying information like the address on your nieces account. Glad you got the Companion changed though without any big issues -Blake

It depends on how you look at it. This means we are getting closer to back to normal. I kind of think this would be a good idea to just continue as a general practice. But I'm like Blake, it would rarely make me change my flight.

And now... the rest of the story: I received a response from SWA on 03/18/2021. ... "Customers who encroach upon any part of the neighboring seat(s) may proactively purchase the needed number of seats prior to travel in order to ensure the additional seat(s) is available. The armrest is considered to be the definitive boundary between seats; width between the armrests measures 17 inches. That said, our Customer of size policy is designed to ensure the Safety and comfort of all Customers onboard our flights. We have given our Agents guidelines for helping them assess if a Customer may be in need of a second seat, and we rely on them to maintain consistency in our application of this policy.".... As stated before, this isn't about the funds (which SWA refunded). I would gladly pay for an extra seat so I and seat mates could be more comfortable. While the policy appears clear that the definitive boundary between seats / armrests is 17 inches... I guess the gate agents have a superpower ability to make the assessment of size. I'm unclear why SWA doesn't allow people to pay a non-refundable fee for an extra seat to make everyone more comfortable.

Sounds like you're worried about having a clean plane? Well, considering neither middle seats being full nor contact with surfaces have been attributed to spreading Covid, it seems you're being overly paranoid. The facts are you'll be low risk regardless. If you're looking to assuage your fears of flying, your best bet is to stay home. There's really nothing to be gained by nitpicking one flight over another.

No need for a larger person to buy an extra seat. Southwest will provide and extra seat for free under the "customer of size" policy. It is quite easy.

I flew a handful of times in October and it was pretty well compliant and only a few reminders, full compliance by flight staff. I felt pretty good overall on the plane.

It also solidifies that you get the best price. I'm TORN, in how much I do that right now because I want SWA to survive this situation we are in. But in the past weekend, I had actually gotten the round trip in May, and since then things changed. It was a great move based on the weather and canceled flights out of Denver on Sunday evening.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Life (flying) is pretty safe as long as you wear your mask, wash your hands etc. Southwest does a good job of sanitizing it's planes and keeping plane air fresh. Statistics I've seen are that your chance of dying from Covid exposure on a plane is something like 1 in 400,000 to 1 in 600,000. Your chance of dying in a car crash is something like 1 in 125 over your lifetime.
