Jessica Southwest does fly into Montego Bay. Why do you think otherwise?

This kind of thing is almost always the result of customers not understanding the terms and conditions of their credit card agreement. That is definitely the case with the OP. You can't open an account and then immediately assume you can use X amount of points for a free flight. That's not how it works. 😕 Read the terms and conditions - carefully! --Jessica

The weird thing is, I can "assemble" an itnerary myself with separate SW flights going IAD-LAS and then LAS-RNO on the same day with rasonable connection time and seats available on both flights. But, the SW website won't assemble a similar match. Maybe they need a new IT system as tyhis seems very Wells Fargo! Sad because SW has me soured on flying other sirlines..

@dfwskier wrote: Two points here 1) If you check in via the SW app, then you can save your boarding pass to your photo album where it will remain til you delete it. Then you can print a screenshot of the pass. 2) You can get a flight receipt from the SW website by clicking on past trips. Only flights actually taken show up here. IMO #2 above is the only "sure" way of proving you took a flight. There are lots of times that I've checked in, gotten boarding passes, and then changed my mind and did not take the flights. So a boarding pass IS NOT proof that you took a flight. What do the receipts show, can you only get them for flights flown? That would be the best. Otherwise the same issue exists with email confirmations plus boarding passes - these are strong indicators but it would be possible to change flights after getting a boarding pass. Asking for boarding passes may be a legacy request that was applicable back in the old days.

During 2019 due to illness, my travel for work was a little more limited and I was short of A list status requirements by 5 flights. I have contacted customer service to request a one time grant of A list status for 2020 as my travel will be increasing in the upcoming year and I have been a loyal southwest customer. I was declined due to the need to "maintain the integrity" of the rewards program. I would have graciously accepted this explanation had I not found out through a google news link that southwest was surprising people with elite status: https://thepointsguy.com/news/southwest-elite-status-surprise/ Does anyone know how I might escalate this issue? I had a similar situation last year and was eventually offered a promotional offer to fly six flights for remainder of the year A-list, during which I flew plenty and earned A-list the regular way for the rest of 2019 to 2020. I think the promotion came sometime at the end of January or in February, i forget all of the details unfortunately. If they do end up offering you one, the best approach is to keep flying and pay for the earlier boarding options if that's important to you.

AND - I opened two cards last year as well. Would have been nice if we were one of those that were targeted. Oh well.... I had lost A-list last year after being very close and earning it several prior years. I was offered a promotional A-list by flying six flights during some period which I did, got the promotional A-list to tide me over, and then eventually earned it permanently applying to this year. Keep a lookout for a promotional offer sometime around the end of January.

I too find it unusual to have locks on your suitcases. I have nothing packed in my checked luggage that can't be easily replaced, so there's no reason for me to lock my suitcase. When you see a locked suitcase, the first question on anyone's mind is probably: what's in there? TSA has every right to open it and inspect it (but they should replace the lock when they are done). --Jessica

You used RR points to buy Amazon gift cards?? If that statement is true, you did not do so via Southwest Airlines. You did so with a separate company called More Rewards - which allows people to cash in RR points for hotel stays, rent cars, and Amazon (and other) gift cards. You should be talking with that company. https://www.1.awardhq.com/24468SWANCMSWARRNCM/browse/contactUs.jsp Ah, that is exactly right. I apologize for not reading the initial post correctly.

IOS 11 was released in 2017. To be on an even older release means that your device was made in 2016 or even earlier. It's now 2020, so your device is approaching 4+ years old at a minimum. Update your tech 🙂 --Jessica

The Southwest web site says that for mobile devices and tablets, you need IOS 11 or above for the devices to work properly during a flight. Regarding the app, the app also requires IOS 11 or above, as stated in the App Store. Apps do need to be kept up to date because older versions of the app become less stable / unusable with later IOS upgrades that become released. Assuming you are on at least IOS 11 and the app is up to date, you should be able to use it during your flight. My guess is you are using an older IOS, and that is why you are having problems. --Jessica

Hi @virginiarey5. We're sorry to hear about your less-than-pleasant experience with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel. It's important to clarify that the TSA is an agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and Southwest Airlines is a separate entity. If you'd like to file a complaint with the TSA, you'll need to reach out at https://www.tsa.gov/contact/customer-service. Thanks!

While you can't "purchase" A-List, Southwest has offered in the past the ability to buy a limited amount of Tier Qualifying Points, to help "top off" A-List qualification, near the end of the year. To my knowledge, those points didn't apply to A-List Preferred status. I've not seen any reports of this being offered this year.

@jksobonya wrote: When a plane has an open seating policy and no reserved seats, this can happen. Honestly, I don't care where I sit on the plane, so it's not an issue for me. Why are people so concerned about being in the first few rows of an airplane, where seats are often saved? The only reason to be towards the front of the plane is if you have a very short connection to catch. If your connection time is one hour or more, where you sit in the plane really doesn't matter. --Jessica For those who check bags it also shouldn't matter where you sit on the plane because rushing to baggage claim to wait is a bit silly which is why I usually go towards the exit row or farther back.

@jksobonya wrote: was for Saturday morning with 2 stops in MDW and Austin TX, but knowing how weather can be in Chicago I had rebooked it to go through ORD the night before instead, thinking it was much more direct and the weather would be better heading south than heading west. You mean MCO? I'd agree that seems much more straightforward. And as a last ditch if the flights were all disrupted you could take ground transport the last four hours as a last resort. @jksobonya wrote: So, my question to you all is this: is this normal?! 😄 When flights get rerouted in the 11th hour as mine was, how do the agents working with bags know to find the right bag and tag it to the right location? I assume the pink "TRANSFER" tags are the first thing that they look for since my bag already had a stop/transfer - as well as a luggage tag with a name on it. But I'm wondering if situations like these result in a majority of lost luggage, and I just got really lucky. I'm into big data and this would be very interesting if we had the database to go through. IMO and not supported by any data, only looking at things from a predictive standpoint, connections add one opportunity for bags to miss a flight. Also checking bags way early allows them to be hanging out and overlooked. Checking them way late allows them to go on different flights but I wouldn't say to go missing. Changing itinerary I think is fine, as @bec102896 mentioned having someone call down to find your bag and mark it with new itinerary was great! Otherwise they come to the airport later. I've seen varying levels of Southwest staff clearing the carousels: Some of the smaller airports they are out there collecting yoru stuff right away - go to the bathroom even and the baggage office already has corraled your items. LAS also on the lookout to keep your items secured. So glad that worked out for you, and that they were able to re-route your baggage.

Entering the code itself when you get onboard I think you may find this to be a legitimate bonus for flying Southwest, as long as you don't have to enter any personal info to claim the code why not try it?
