I lost my early bird funds. My cruise was canceled August 5th. After I got the email from the cruise line that the trip was canceled, I canceled the flights. Lost my money. I had purchased early bird for myself and my mother. $80 gone.

As posted on another thread: Wearing an N95 mask with a valve doesn't do much to protect those around you, as it permits droplet release, negating the whole point of wearing a mask. I was wondering why it took so long to ban them... I have to wear N95 masks (I'm immunocompromised). I simply wear a disposable surgical or cloth mask over it. Double-masked! I'm protected and I'm protecting those around me. No one knows I have the N95 on...they just think I'm overly concerned about contracting COVID.

@ ffflyer I could not agree more! I have delayed all absolutely unnecessary travel for now. Not because of any fear, but because of all the inconvenience and BS. Funny, in the weeks following the whole country shut down, and it wasn't until it started opening back up, I was flying (HOU/DTW, DTW/BOS, & BOS/HOU, numerous segments), and none of us were wearing masks, not the few passengers OR the crew. All about making the sheep and cattle feel all fuzzy and warm, just like the whole TSA thing! I have issues with wearing a mask but I am tolerating it for the moment, and I have my own personal feelings about the whole Covid 19 BS, but I don't want to get that battle raging here. Unfortunately, most of my trips to drive would require days v. hours to fly. Shorter ones, around Texas or to New Orleans, I too am driving. Safe travels, my friend.

Sorry to hear about your experience...but wow, you certainly had me captivated. Sadly, this sort of story is all too common these days, but it definitely makes a different impression when related so eloquently. Forceful in its softness, if you will. If you needed a job selling ice to Eskimos, you could probably get it. 😉 I hope your next flight is better. If I find myself sitting next to you, I expect a good yarn.

What were you trying to do before Southwest indicated that it would offer a refund? Trying to get SWA to expire (I forefit) the cash value of the Travel Funds awarded from the cancellation so I could file an insurance claim as a loss instead. Had SWA been able to erase (I forefit) the Travel Funds (and NOT refund the purchase), I would have filed a claim with Insurance. At no point did I EVER expecting to get a refund from BOTH SWA and my travel insurance. Why is this so hard for you to understand? I guess. we have all kinds of aptitudes on this forum. Perhaps you're more of a visual kind a guy? Glad I have time to do this!

Southwest defense will be that eligibility for refund is clearly stated in the C of C. Problem is, less than 1% (my guess only) of the public bothers to read the thing. Southwest is NOT being transfarent.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be calling SW vacations next week. I sent a message to SW airlines & it seems like I'd be able to deal direct with them about a refund on the air portion. I have trip insurance through SWV, but I'm not sure if I have to make my final payment for it to kick in & be able to cancel my other parts. Everything online seems so vanilla, & they aren't replyingto emails. Thanks again!

When you say your statement closed on the 9th and you have not received your points, has your statement actually posted to your account (which usually happens a few days after the closing date)? If your April statement is available to see, then look for the points that were included in the statement.

@tkb89 wrote: Upon reading of the temporary reversal of the policy, I emailed SWA requesting a voucher for my early bird fees. First, I also received the same email as posted by the previous user, however, that email was followed up with an email stating that I was mistaken in thinking that the policy had been reversed and was told I was denied the voucher. Being told no after being told yes is unprofessional and frustrating, and seems to go against the revised policy. You were denied a voucher? Try reaching out one more time, but to the Customer Relations department (not the regular customer service staff). You can reach them quickly via Facebook or Twitter private message. Good luck!

As mentioned, once the points are transferred from Chase to SW - they are yours, no matter what happens to the credit card. BUT, if you want to have a less expensive annual card fee - remember the 149/yr fee can actually only cost you half . . . or $75 a year because you account will get a free 7500 mile annual bonus rewards . . . which is worth 75.00 toward any gift card - such as department stores, restaurants, dvds, and others. Or, Chase will be able to downgrade your card to a 60.00/yr card, and you get an extra $30 in gift cards to lower your out-of-pocket. Keeping your chase card through a downgrade will also help you immensely in getting other Chase cards that actually can pay you $2000 in cash bonus'. Once you have the first Chase card, the other cards are easily approved . . . especially the home business cards.

In Southwest's own contract of carriage, it states refunds will take up to 7 days. If the representative you speak with says it will take longer, I would download the contract of carriage and send them a screenshot of their own policy. Also, in the past I've requested a refund when my flight was rebooked to dates I wasn't available. It had to call back 2-3 times after waiting 7 the days before between calls before the refund was properly processed, and when it was properly processed it only took about 2 days to show up on my account. Hope this helps! Just be persistent and set reminders to continue checking on it until you've received your $$.

It's true. You have to call and it takes awhile to process. Have all your confirmation numbers ready...give them all at one time. They will email you a voucher for the EB credits. You can use them for anyone!!! THANK YOU SWA!!

You need to contact Customer Relations, not the "regular" reservations department, and their phone line has limited hours/days. Plus, when they are open, they're overwhelmed. I wouldn't recommend calling right now, your best bet is to reach out via Twitter or Facebook private message (they're staffed by Customer Relations). You'll get a quicker response, and you'll also be creating a paper trail. If you qualify for a refund (your flight was cancelled by Southwest) Make the refund request clear and unequivocal, and in writing. Document everything. If you're denied, or offered anything other than a full refund, reply once, insist on the refund, and cite the DOT enforcement order. (You may have just reached an misinformed agent earlier. Give Southwest a chance to correct any mistakes. Them initiating the refund is still the quickest way to get one.) Carriers must process the refund within 7 days. Note that it may take your bank another 1-2 billing cycles to actually put the funds back in your credit card account. If you don't receive notification that the refund has been processed within 7 days, dispute the charge with your credit card bank. Banks are also overwhelmed these days, but there should be a way to initiate a dispute via their website. They have 30-45 days to respond, but they will likely issue a temporary credit to your card account quicker than that. If you're ultimately denied a refund, file a DOT consumer complaint. The good news is that you'll most likely not have to take things that far. Despite a brief period of non-compliance, Southwest has corrected themselves and, I suspect, wants to do the right thing now (and avoid DOT fines or other enforcement action). Agents may continue to initially offer travel funds (or vouchers for EarlyBird Check-In fees), but if you're clear about needing a refund it's likely they'll understand and comply.

@Famdangocruiser if Southwest cancelled your flight then you are entitled to a refund if you request it. You need to get in touch with their Twitter or Facebook teams, or call Customer Relations (it's a different phone number than the normal customer service number). See this thread for an example of a successful refund: https://www.southwestaircommunity.com/t5/Travel-Policies/What-Southwest-are-y-all-flying/m-p/104685 There is a different thread where a customer had to contact Southwest multiple times (I can't find that thread now) but was eventually refunded. Please post when it's resolved for you or if you have any problems.
