I always suggest booking directly with the hotel. The few points you get booking through 3rd parties is typically small and not worth the hassle.

You raise a good question because the original statement from Southwest regarding the travel funds that were extended out to Sept 2022 was that if you used them and then cancelled that reservation, the travel funds would no longer expire Sept 2022, but rather they would expire one year from the date you used the travel fund to make that purchase. So, based on that, if you use the travel fund currently set to expire Sept 2022 and made a purchase today for a flight in August, then you decided to cancel that, in theory you would have a new expiration date of one year from today. That sounds too good to be true though since Southwest has never provided a way to extend expiration before other than the extension of funds out to September 2022 and I'm inclined to believe as you said, that might have been only if the one year is earlier than the September 2022 date. I could be wrong, but I don't think the situation can get any worse for you since the funds were going to expire before the December trip anyway. So you could use the funds now to purchase a flight for August then if you decide to cancel that you can see what expiration date the new travel funds get. An earlier expiration date gives you more time to deal with the conversion of the expired travel funds to LUV vouchers and a later expiration date may let you use the travel funds for the December trip. Just remember you have 6 months to use vouchers so wait until at least June or to request them (must be after travel funds expire).

Only option that allows you to use any of the credit towards travel after the expiration date is to allow the travel funds to expire. Then, after they expire, contact Southwest in writing (use the contact us link at the bottom of the page) and send a message saying you would like to have expired travel funds X,Y, and Z for passengers A, B, and C reinstated as LUV vouchers. The value of each travel fund will be reduced by $100 each and you have six months after they are reinstated to use them. You have up to 6 months after expiration to request this, but do it as soon as possible after expiration since it can take a month for Southwest to complete the process. It also helps to acknowledge the $100 "fee" per travel fund in your initial request.

Going strictly by the wording of the policy, no, Southwest will not accept an item as checked baggage if the dimensions exceed a total of 80". I would guess most of this has to do with getting objects that potentially do not fit through a plane door. Unlike larger planes or cargo planes, Southwest's 737s just do not have large openings to get bulky items into the plane. There is potential that the item would not be measured and would get accepted without issue, BUT do you really want to leave it to chance at the last minute? I would suggest finding a way to reduce the size of the box or shipping it via another method.

Some clarification is definitely needed here. Are you trying to complete this trip on one single day? If you have specific dates, sharing that might help folks troubleshoot as well.
On the positive side you will earn 2 flight credits towards status instead of just one if you book the flights separately. I'm curious as to why you are so set on having it be one flight, any particular reason?

As mentioned in a reply to another one of your complaints, Southwest Vacations is not related to, owned by, or operated by Southwest Airlines. They are actually part of the Apple Leisure Group. The only contact info I am aware of is How do I contact Southwest Vacations®?

@get1rink Hopefully you realize you jumped onto an old thread that is completely unrelated to your complaint. Southwest Vacations is not a part of Southwest Airlines, they are actually owned and operated by Apple Vacations. This is mentioned frequently here in the Community and it's also mentioned that their customer service is not very good. Personally, I would not do business with them, I would book my flights with Southwest Airlines and take care of everything else separately. You may have valid complaints, but they have nothing to do with Southwest Airlines and its CEO.

Southwest, and all other airlines, change routes and schedules frequently to adjust for demand, profitability, etc. No one here can tell you if or when routes will change. You're certainly welcome to submit your comments directly to Southwest if you would like, use the contact us link at the bottom of this page and send a message.

If your flight from DAL is on time you should have plenty of time to grab a sandwich and go to the restroom. The Southwest terminal in SAN is very compact and gates are close together. You won't get much more than some snacks on the reminder of the trip so grab a few things in SAN.

Unless you are coming into the United States from an international airport you do not have to claim your bags, they will be transferred for you (assuming the flight was booked as one trip and not 2 separate trips).

Sounds like you could have just answered her question and the situation would have resolved itself. Had you said "no" I'm betting she would have gotten a seat for you, but since you apparently did need the extender or didn't want to answer the question, the whole issue of her allowing someone else to sit in the seat is irrelevant.

Yeah, it's not a common thing anywhere you go. No airline is blocking seats in economy and things are basically back to normal. Get vaccinated, wear a mask, and have a safe flight.

Sounds like a rather fishy story. You could have just called Southwest and asked to change your flight. The whole "call Southwest executive" makes this pretty likely to be spam. But, by chance you are legit you can submit your comments directly to Southwest. Use the contact us link at the bottom of the page.

When you mix travel funds and cash, any future travel fund generated inherits the earliest expiration date of the travel fund(s) used to complete the purchase. This is standard policy and explained in this FAQ available at https://www.southwest.com/faq/travel-funds
Think of a travel fund like a store credit that expires. The expiration date depends on the payment you used to book the original ticket. Note that all travel must be booked and completed by the travel fund’s expiration date.
Booked with a credit card or gift card: The travel fund will expire 12 months from the date you booked the ticket.
Booked with a Southwest LUV Voucher: The travel fund will adopt the expiration date of the voucher used to book the ticket.
Booked with travel funds: The travel fund will keep the expiration date of the original travel fund used to book the ticket. For example, on March 1, you use a travel fund that expires May 20 to book a ticket. Later, you cancel that ticket. The expiration date for these funds is still May 20.
If you book with a combination of these payments, the travel fund adopts the expiration date of the fund that expires soonest.
The last sentence of the above policy is what occurred in your situation. The funds were mixed and given the expiration date of the $21 travel fund you used to make the purchase. Apparently that date passed and the fund expired. It's always beneficial to know the policies of credits before you book non-refundable tickets. Sorry you had to learn the hard way.

When using a travel fund that was extended out to September 7, 2022 any travel funds created later on expire one year from the purchase date when you used the travel fund expiring September 7, 2022.
When did you use the travel fund to purchase the Vegas flight you cancelled?
Here's the wording that was originally posted on southwest.com:

If you purchased a refundable fare (Anytime or Business Select) you can get a refund back to the original form of payment. Wanna Get Away fares are non-refundable and if you cancel you will receive a travel fund. Travel funds can be used for a flight within one year of the original purchase date.

A tad bit of an overreaction perhaps?
As said earlier, these types of issues are handled much better via written messages that leave a paper trail and allow the customer service agents working on the issue the appropriate amount of time to resolve the issue. On the phone there is just not ample time to gather all the needed information. Find the contact us link at the bottom of the page, use the send a message option and clearly identify your issue without the additional commentary added. I would bet your issue will be quickly resolved.

When you cancel a reservation of a non-refundable ticket the value of that ticket is held as a travel fund that can be used within one year of the original purchase date. Booking and cancelling again within that one year window does not extend the expiration date. It appears you did not use the travel fund before it expired. Southwest offers the opportunity to reinstate expired travel funds as LUV vouchers if you make the request within 6 months of expiration. As you noted, there is a $100 fee per expired travel fund to make this happen and the LUV voucher you receive is valid for 6 months. You are not paying any additional money out of pocket, the value of the credit you had, which is now expired, can be reduced by $100 per travel fund and you can use the remaining credit.

"provide a companion pass for another time" sounds like compensation to me.
Since you purchased a non-refundable ticket the standard refund policies apply. Not understanding terms of a promotion does not magically change that. You chose to jump the gun and purchase a ticket for yourself before you received the companion pass, that was your choice. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

When you change a flight a the new flight costs less than the currently booked flight the price is shown as a negative. Completing that change will generate a new travel fund for you and that can be applied just like any other travel fund to the purchase of a flight. That can be one of 3 payment methods used to complete the purchase.
It is possible to combine travel funds if you have 3 that combined together would cover the purchase of a flight. For example, if you have three travel funds: $20, $25, and $5 for a total of $50. Find a flight that costs $50 or less and book it with the 3 travel funds, then cancel it and you will have a single travel fund for the amount of the flight you just booked and cancelled. Doing this will create a new fund with the expiration date of the earliest expiration date of the 3 travel funds you used to complete the transaction so just watch out if you have any funds expiring much sooner than others. You can repeat this process as needed to combine as many funds as you want. I have used this method to take 10 or so smaller travel funds and make one large one.

@PaulM1 Based on the information you provided earlier it was pretty easy to see there was a misunderstanding and you did not meet the requirements. To demand compensation for that is not reasonable when you could have read the requirements yourself as many others, including those who commented on your post did. If you want to take your business elsewhere because you did not understand the terms of a promotion it is your decision to make, good luck and safe travels.
