@CountryAl wrote: So if we go online and change our reservation to select the lower rate can we still cancel down the road if needed? I have a reservation booked for May for a festival that will more than likely be rescheduled. The price went down but if I change to the updated price can I still cancel if need be? Yes if you need to cancel down the road you can and you would then have 2 different credits under the same confirmation number. Credit 1 would be for the difference in fare and credit 2 would be the rest of the reservation if you cancel.

Well, they shouldn't just disappear. SW might be having some computer issues as it tries to implement the extension of travel fund expirations dates. If you know a confirmation number you could try the old way: https://www.southwest.com/flight/travel-funds-search.html

@Coneheado I don't know what Southwest is thinking or doing because there are multiple forum users reporting that Southwest is refusing refunds for Southwest cancelled flights. What *should* happen, and what has happened in the past, is that you would get a refund back to your credit card. If funds are issued then they are assigned by ticketed passenger.

That wouldn't be the most ethical thing to do, since the purpose of the restriction is to prevent the spread of the virus from a virus hotspot. Of course it wouldn't be the most ethical thing to do however Some will probably do it anyways unfortunately. That would be a stat that I would like to see: how many changed flights to get around the rule. we had a similar rule put in to place in Texas today as well I'm sure more states will follow.

Isn’t there an exception to this rule right now? I have the same problem, ie. I purchased four plane tickets for friends and now our event has been canceled. I really need the funds back on my credit card OR the funds put back into MY flight funds (not my friend’s flight funds). Can’t you help us with this? It is a situation we never saw coming.

If this didn't solve your issue the solution can be "unmarked" - I had put it solved since it sounded like that was the issue replicated by another user, and what had worked for them. I doubt it is 1000's of flights by this hiccup, certainly not per day, but who knows. Southwest would only know if there is some tracking of people getting partway through booking and not completing , or if people like yourself report in. The community isn't a customer support pathway for Southwest however, you mostly get fellow customers like us who can offer advice, suggestion, commiseration, etc. If you would like to lodge a request with Southwest you'll need to use the "contact us" link down in the lower left of this page.

The unit on concourse C was closed? That stinks! I had one flight where we showed up and a few people were boarding the flight before ours. However the gate area was eerily empty - it was actually our flight that had started boarding early! We didn't get to sit together, with the baby. Anyway - you need to talk to your travel agent, IND-ATL-OAK sounds dismal, besides what route you ended up taking.

@ipsedixit wrote: SW takes expired drink coupons all the time. Especially now given that they have suspended in-flight beverage service, I would keep them and use them when things return to "normal". They specifically say "no expired coupons" but in effect by asking nicely, you may get a free one instead. Drink coupons are most likely way down the list of changes Southwest is making right now, I don't expect to see any announcement on this - hold the coupons if you can and try to roll with it when things return to normal.

In times like these it's easy to forget the people who are in the service industry like flight attendants and pilots, who are often at the receiving end of the vitriol of frustrated travelers. But especially in times like now -- with shutdowns and lockdowns -- a bit of empathy for our flight attendants/pilots would not hurt. Many of them, I would imagine, are having difficulty finding a place to stay, or even food, when they have to stay overnight because of their flight schedules. So thank you to all the hard working men and women of SWA.

I agree. I too tried to get a refund instead of a voucher and have not been successful. They are going to get a bail out from the government and keep our money. Double dipping. Shame on you Southwest.

KSBRG, I have no idea what your above response about peer to peer means however I have sat online with customer service for hours and they are not helpful and I have NO response to 2 customer service forms from 3 days ago. Thank you to Blake who asked me where it said I had to use the same route so I responded with the answer . Don't want to take up anymore of your time so you can go around and tell others your "peer to peer" response.

Our genuine hope is that you will be able to use the travel funds in the future. We appreciate your understanding and hope to renew your faith in our services. -Dee Also, 4.5 hours after the cancellation text, I received a "we've rebooked you" text. 😕 Several points here 1) You have the right to refuse the flight you were rebooked on 2) Whenever an airline cancels a flight, passengers on that flight can demand a refund I'd recommend that you send an e-mail to SW (print a screenshot for your records) demanding a refund. Click on "contact us" below to learn how to send the e-mail. Based on many reports I'm seeing (check out Southwest's Facebook page and Twitter feed, in addition to the many posts here) it appears that at a minimum there is some confusion regarding the availability of refunds at this point. Sadly, it is possible that what you stated is simply no longer true. If so, that change would be distressing, but perhaps not unexpected given the seriousness of the current situation, as it relates to the financial stability of Southwest. Hopefully we'll get some clarification soon.

DO NOT cancel right now. Instead. wait and watch. You can cancel the day of the flight (no less than 10 minutes before departure time), and get the same thing you would get by cancelling now - a travel fund. If Southwest cancels your flight, you can get a refund. Is that potentially worth waiting for?

I was looking at rebooking and found the flights are significantly cheaper in May. I understand I will still have the credit on my account but feel I should get the full refund for the extra seat. I do not have a Twitter. If you rebook you might be able to use the credit for the 2nd seat then after travel reach out about having that 2nd seat refunded at that point. I'm not 100% sure if it would work that way but that's how I think it might work but I would double check with Southwest. -Blake
