The policy is included in Southwest's Contract of Carriage (pdf download). Accommodation for delayed flights is spelled out in multiple places, but significantly as shown below: 4. Tickets a. Tickets (4) Delays or Involuntary Cancellations. If a Passenger’s scheduled transportation is canceled, terminated, or delayed before the Passenger has reached his/her final destination as a result of a flight cancellation, Carrier-caused missed connection, flight delay, or omission of a scheduled stop, Carrier will either transport the Passenger at no additional charge on another of Carrier’s flights, refund the fare for the unused transportation in accordance with the form of payment utilized for the Ticket, or provide a credit for such amount toward the purchase of future travel. With regards to a delay allowing standby on an earlier flight, I've found that this is very much up to the discretion of the agent, including the necessary length of delay to trigger. Also, it seems this is allowed less now following the change to allow A-Listers free anytime standby.

Yes, we'll close this one out since it's started to include various miscellaneous topics. Everyone, please start a new thread if you have any additional questions. Thanks!

@BigBen3909 wrote: I want to bring an awareness to these facts that Southwest is charging more for flights out of BWI and for people to say something about it... Saying something about it is unlikely to change anything. Doing something about it might. Doing something means flying out of one of the other airports or flying another airline. If the airline suddenly sees a significant drop in passengers out of BWI, then it will likely adjust fares.

@starrahbask The default is opted in so double check your mailing address. If everything looks right contact Southwest. Keep in mind the 10 flights have to be paid flights, not from points bookings or as a a companion. --TheMiddleSeat

It's unlikely that those who consider the MAX to be inherently aerodynamically unstable will be swayed by the approval of potentially suspect governing organizations. Unfortunately, the more the MAX is studied, the more additional issues come to light. And the more that is revealed, the more people mistrust the companies involved. The process is far from over, however, so it remains to be seen if potential fixes to hardware, software, and training will be adequate to assuage passengers' safety concerns.

I too find it unusual to have locks on your suitcases. I have nothing packed in my checked luggage that can't be easily replaced, so there's no reason for me to lock my suitcase. When you see a locked suitcase, the first question on anyone's mind is probably: what's in there? TSA has every right to open it and inspect it (but they should replace the lock when they are done). --Jessica

It can take up to 2 days for points to post to your account after all travel is completed. Keep in mind if your booked on a Round Trip reservation your points wont post until the return flight is completed or cancelled (if you change your mind on flying) -Blake

This is my first year having this card and in the past with other southwest credit cards my points came the same month as my annual fee. I was wondering if they are holding back on the points until after I pay the annual fee. Any thoughts on this? I don't think mine are the same month, and I don't believe they are waiting for payment but just the cycle of the two activies may be slightly different.

@MC36 wrote: @TheMiddleSeat This was not during the busiest holiday season. This was in August. I understand how standby works but the time we actually got on a flight, the lady put us on 25 minutes before departure. Continuing my response from the other post -- this would have occurred because unlike the other flights you had trouble with, that flight had an abundance of unsold seats. Thus the airline could give them to you in advance of the 10 minute time period, and thus let you actually family board. They may not be able to create seats, obviously I assumed Southwest was magical, but they did in fact allow us to board early. We did not have issues parking when leaving Boston but did have issues with last minute cancellation and poor service as a result. When i do travel during the holidays, i will take extra measures to confirm parking. Thanks

Southwest does offer the ability to buy A-List qualifying points, but those offers are targeted (sent only to some members) and non-transferable, and the offer doesn't apply to earning Preferred status. Double check your email (and spam folders) but if you haven't received an offer you're likely out of luck. Also, be aware that the cost of these points can be very high, especially for 9,000 points, and is not offset by the points value, as these specific points aren't actually redeemable towards flights (or otherwise).

Not 100% sure what you mean by kiosk vs desk? Do you mean curbside vs regular inside desk? Either place should work. Here is more, from this SW site: Snow ski equipment, including skis or snowboards, ski boots, and ski poles: including one pair of skis or one snowboard, one set of poles, and one pair of ski/snowboard boots encased in a container(s) acceptable to Carrier. When substituting ski equipment for a free bag, Southwest Airlines allows up to two bags (containing one set of snow skis, ski poles, and ski boots) to count as one item, even if they are packed and tagged separately. Note: Snow ski equipment will not be subject to excess size charges. However, excess weight charges may apply.

Hate to hear. Def no excuse for being treated poorly. In the future, note that many SW counters have a self tag option where you tag the bag yourself and simply drop it off. If you need any extra time or are checking anything out of the ordinary, such as medical equipment, be sure to use the full service line.

While you can't "purchase" A-List, Southwest has offered in the past the ability to buy a limited amount of Tier Qualifying Points, to help "top off" A-List qualification, near the end of the year. To my knowledge, those points didn't apply to A-List Preferred status. I've not seen any reports of this being offered this year.

@MSYTraveler wrote: You speak nasty. Are you the designated travel fund advisor for SWA? The company should be transparent about all customer transaction business. While it is "your money," it's not apparent on the website in an easy to find format. One has to dig to find it, then have kept up with each confirmation from that flight in order to input the info. Feel better after your rant? Actually, Southwest listened to it's customers. All travel funds created after December 2 are available to view and use on the website - no confirmation numbers needed.

Flying Southwest 12/19/19 and pass is not showing on lock screen. I did once when I was pulling up to airport parking and then not again. I haven't had any issues with Delta, American, or United so it has to be the Southwest app, no?

@Erica174 Usually once the schedule is announced there are no additional flights added. You may see some minor adjustments to the times, but no additions. You can always book a flight now and change to another flight later if something does change, but I don't suspect it would happen. --TheMiddleSeat

This can be done! It is just a little complicated. The travel funds are actually irrelevant to your question because the hold up lies in paying "cash"/travel funds for some of the tix and then using points for the others. Here is what you need to do: Book the adult flights. You should be able to do this on one reservation together. Note the confirmation number...you will need it for the kiddos. Next, book the kids' flights on points. Again...you should be able to do this on one reservation together. Toward the end of the booking process, you will get a popup that asks if the kids are flying unaccompanied. You will select thay they are travelling with an adult, and you will be asked for the confirmation info for an adult. As long as you enter that, you should be good. NOTE: Since you will be on two separate reservations, you may not all end up with sequential boarding positions once you check in. If your kids are below six years of age, you can board together in family boarding, and the boarding positions become irrelevant. Hope that helps. This is something we do all the time, so you should be good. If you have more questions, let me know. You might also find it easier to simply call to book using the Contact Us info below. Either way, good luck, and happy flying!
