For a variety of reasons, I almost never book round-trip flights -- unless there is a cost difference vs purchasing two one-way tickets. And add your question to the list of reasons why I almost always purchase one-way flights.
You ask a good question, and with a round-trip flight, I do not know the answer. I would suggest contacting SWA directly regarding this.
But I do know that if you purchase one-way flights, that you can add your Companion to either, or both, flight with no issues.

You'll have better results to tag them if they are still active on the board from that long ago. @atkinsont
Summarizing from other posts the points can be restored sometimes if they can be intercepted based on whatever the hackers are doing with them, but many cases the points are spent in a way that Southwest can't verify what has happened. (You are allowed to book someone else a flight with your points for instance, so having only the example of another person booked with your points isn't evidence of fraud all by itself.)
There seems to be a mixture of examples where the points are or aren't able to be restored.

I totally agree with you. For my 5:30 AM flights, it is totally worth it. Plus, I just found out that that I get two or three free EBs with my credit card. Plus, on vacation, I don't have to worry about checking in 24 hrs prior. However, each to their own.

Lol and look at the rates? After SW destroyed peoples holidays you’d think they’d have favorable prices??? Nope! SW now looking to take advantage of customers again with ridiculous fares. This also caused other airlines rates to skyrocket because of all the SW customers booking with other airlines who are more reliable. All of their flights now are booked with SW customers who no longer trust the liars at SW

If it's an active reservation it should show up in your Southwest account or at least be able to manage it via the manage reservations option. Then you can cancel it which also opens the seat for someone else to use it. That cancellation will give you travel credits, but you can use the link @dfwskier shared to request a refund if you don't want credits to use later.

This is always a touchy subject, as there are many people out there that love their pets as if they were children, and there are other people who have real mental health issues who truly need an emotional support animal to get by. The difficulty is trying to understand the difference between the two groups of people. Those who "love" their pets and insist they can control them and that they are loving and wouldn't hurt a fly (etc.) are the problem - they try to bring their animals on board an aircraft and the animals can't be controlled. They aren't real service animals and they should not be allowed to board in my view. We need better policies around what qualifies as an emotional support animal and when/how one can bring an animal on board, because apparently people are getting around current policy and bringing non-emotional support animals on board. --Jessica

Re. “a guy bleeding from his leg sitting in a wheelchair” If the guy was literally bleeding from an open wound, from an infection control perspective, this is commonly and technically known as “bad” – especially if someone is boarding a crowded plane for a well-contained flight. First of all, if the guy bleeding has an open wound, he himself is way open to bacteria and significant risk of infection, particularly in a crowded, closely contained, not very clean, commercial airplane environment. Secondly, if this is an open wound, those who might come into contact with the guy, or his blood from a surface, are at risk of contracting anything he may be carrying. This could be any type of blood-borne illnesses like hepatitis B or C, staph, or any other virus the person may have. Blood is a fabulous transmitter for illness. Additionally, bloodborne viruses can live outside the body and still cause infection. For example, the Hep B virus can live for as long as a week outside the body in dried blood, and Hep C for up to four days. One might also think there is a decent chance that a guy boarding a plane with a bleeding open wound is not in the best of health or under the best of care. To allow a passenger to have an uncovered, bleeding wound, while boarding and flying on a plane is staggering to me. And people usually look at me funny after I sit down, pull out my Lysol wipes, and clean every surface around me that I might touch. Southwest – Apparently you have a new protocol to implement, and/or further training to provide your employees.

I lost a significant amount of my hearing from an autoimmune disorder. I can't hear soft noises or any higher pitched sounds such as a SMOKE DETECTOR, CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR, POLICE AND AMBULANCE SIRENS, TORNADO SIRENS, RATTLESNAKES, doorbells, kitchen timers, rattlesnakes, and etc... I am blessed with a hearing alert service dog that alerts me upon hearing such important sounds. I have never experienced a fire or CO2 poisoning in my home, but my service dog alerted me to a timber rattlesnake that was within 2 yards of my feet and a tornado siren (when visiting my elderly mother in Oklahoma). This is the USA. There are rights for people with disabilities in the USA. My hearing alert service dog weighs 4.6 pounds and you may believe it is just a pet, but I depend upon my service dog to save my life. I hope I never have to meet you or sit anywhere near you on a SW flight with my service dog. @LizF wrote: I lost a significant amount of my hearing from an autoimmune disorder. That's a real, legitimate service dog who provides true service that is vital to your health, life, and independence. Also, service animals are highly trained. An awful lot of ESAs are not.

Very disapointed with SWA's rollout of Hawaii flights. There are no more tickets available. Wanted to use miles and have companion status - but no go. I have all these miles and campanion status and they are worthless. I will have to purchase tickets through other carrier. Thanks SWA.

@mkinser wrote: I'm curious about WGA fares being completely sold out. I'm looking to book MKE-SJU round trip for 3/22 - 3/31. The WGA fares have been "sold out" for months. Every flight on 3/20 has WGA fares so I am assuming that SWA just has them locked out yet for the dates I am looking at. Quite possible - either they are expecting these to sell at the higher rate, or some high percentage of the plane has already been sold. @mkinser wrote: .... Can someone please tell me typically how far in advance SWA opens up these fares? No - the fare may be opened up, this could depend on expected demand for flights those days, fares already purchased, and competition with the other guys for these routes. We can say that often these fares may be opened back up but not any specific time, or if this particular route may not be opened back up. There is always the option to book now - which it sounds like would be a refundable fare, and then refund and rebook if you do catch a WGA availability.

Unbeknownst to me, my Global Entry card had recently expired and therefore I did not receive Precheck on a 2 out of 4 flights last week. I had pretty much forgotten what a major-league difference, and pain in the neck, going through the standard TSA line is like. I am more appreciative of Precheck than ever. I applied for renewal and thankfully one of my credit cards is covering the $100 fee. It took about 4 business days and I was back in TSA Precheck action! I’ve now got a calendar reminder set for 4 years and 10 months from now, so I renew it ahead of time in 2023.

Word. One additional thought. If you need to change the flight at a later time after it is booked, be sure to log into YOUR RR account and then search for that reservation using the confirmation number. I do this all the time to double check if the points price of the flight has gone down. If it does, you can rebook and get some points back!

Spot on. Now that 2 one-way flights are almost always the same price as a round trip flight, with SWA I've only been booking 1-way domestic flights for several years now and this is one of the reasons why -- especially since SWA doesn't charge a cancellation or change fee.

I thought I would also mention that if you have a business that's doing some reasonable revenue and has typical expenses, using the SWA business card and putting everything you can on it until you hit the annual spend to get the companion pass is a great way to go. Also, not only do you get points for every dollar you spend with the Visa card, for every $10,000 of spend placed on the SWA Premier card, they also give you a bonus of 1,500 more points which actually go toward A-List status. Not to mention there's an annual bonus of either 3,000 or 6,000 points, depending on the SWA card(s) you have. For us, thankfully that means we will likely qualify for the 2019 Companion Pass at about the end of this May. So, what we're also going to do is get the Chase Ink Business card this month. They are offering an 80,000 point sign up bonus. Plus, we do our business banking with Chase and our banker is giving us an additional 20,000 points -- for a crazy total of 100,000 points. You have to spend $5,000 on the card in the first 3 months, but the value of this is worth about $1,250 when redeemed for travel - or $1,000 when redeemed for cash. You can also transfer points to SWA on a 1:1 basis. They've also got some other nice perks like free cell phone insurance which will save our business about $1,800 a year right now (instead of paying about $11 per-month, per-phone), primary rental car insurance, 120 day purchase protection, + more. The annual fee is $95. All that to say, if you have a business and manage your money reasonably well, these are exceptional deals. I should mention, however, this is all predicated upon you fully paying off your credit card each month -- so if you're not going to do that, forget about this program... all bets are off. However, if you do pay your Visa bill(s) in full each month a couple days before they are due, it means that you're effectively floating the bank's money for 30-60 days. How often do we get to stick it to the bank like that? Ps. I promise I get nothing from Chase for sharing this information. I just realized that I could be sounding a bit like a shill for them 😉
