To add to the other post; You can get on the standby list on the app the day of, if you wait until the airport then you will be way down the priority list and doubtful you will get standby; If you really want to change, look at spending a little more and booking the I wanna get away plus fare and you can make same day confirmed changes instead of standby, but the seats still need to be available; This means if there is room on the flight, you can book it on that day starting at midnight the day of, and not wait for standby list to clear. Standby or Confirmed change, you will lose your seating position from check in so don't purchase any early bird check in, you will lose that too. If you have small children, you can still do the family boarding; If you really want a specific flight, with 4 people at peak time, and if you are checking luggage you may want to just consider getting the flight you want, but if you are ok with the cheaper flight if that is what you end up with, it is a great way to save money;

A quick follow up to this - corporate followed up with me and took care of the original problem, which I expected would happen. They were very friendly and helpful.
There really isn't a solution that can be applied to the main complaint because they can't undo my wasted time and frustration. I hope Southwest starts to realize that when customers complain it is typically when they feel they aren't being heard or helped. This area needs great improvement.

You’ll also lose the transferability from WGA+ but if you fly often then you probably don’t worry about using travel credits either.

You are correct that the message is linked to a flight change. If the flight has changed, and it does not work for you, you can receive a refund instead of transferring the funds to someone else. (You can also change your flight with no charges as long as it is the same origin/destination). However, if you want to keep the funds and just transfer it then you will see that when you deposit the credit into your RR account. You will go to the credit section and it will identify it as transferrable. If you want a refund, I believe you need to call and have them issue the refund:
Here is their policy.
If you decide not to travel as a result of a Southwest-initiated schedule change, you can choose to either a) receive a method-of-payment refund or b) hold the value of the ticket as a flight credit that you can use to buy a future flight. Learn more about refunds and flight credit.

Southwest should also kick in here as they are lending their name to an organization that has more complaints than there are grains of sand on the seashore.

So for example if you earn the $4k by May 12th, but your statement closes on May 31st, you would likely see it in your account on Jun 1 or 2nd.
I don't recall though, did this promotion have a specific time period for companion pass? I recall some promotions the companion pass was only good for specific months. If this is the case you may not see companion pass until that time period, I have not had experience with this situation so someone else may be able to advise you better.
There is also usually a time limit to earn the $4k spending which might be three months? So earning it cumulatively in either one, two, or three months for example.
Usually you would get a confirmation email "you've made it" or something to that effect, but the pass itself won't show up until the specified period. If that was immediately then it would be there to nominate a companion, if it was July for example the pass won't show up in your account until 7/1 at midnight:01. This can be a little inconvenient if you are flying later in the day 7/1 but book your ticket now and add the companion then.

So with same day change you can make the change starting at midnight so you could set an alarm and right at midnight make the change. As long as a seat exists you can get it regardless of if it’s anytime only available and as long as your destination doesn’t change and date you can pick any available flight connection city can change (I’ve changed to different connection cities just to grab lunch/dinner before)
Keep in mind should the day come and there are no later flights you will be stuck with the awful flight so be ready just in case
As mentioned you will lose your boarding position so I wouldn’t buy EB check in as it won’t apply to your new flight however you could still upgrade to the A1-15 if you want after making the same day change if it’s available

Sorry for the capitals, but I am obviously livid. And this is happening live right now at 1:25am. SFO - DEN, flight delayed for over 3 hours, then we’re sitting on the tarmac for over an hour, and while driving back to the gate, the pilot says there are too many flights coming in and out and our flight cannot leave and we have to rebook. We’re still on the plane, waiting for a spot at the gates to open! They said they’ll rebook, but we don’t want to go anymore, as we have a baby and this is way too difficult on her/us. What are our options and can we be compensated for anything, as we prepaid for our hotel and car rental?
When you get to talk to someone, or if you are automatically re-booked then you'll have to contact Southwest Contact Southwest Customer Service and let them know that you want to be refunded instead of rebooked, and if you are automatically rebooked let Southwest be the one to cancel it and refund, don't cancel it yourself if the only option is Travel Credit.
If you are starting from SFO consider trying OAK which has a lot of routes including to Denver with 5 or 6 non-stops per day.
SFO should still have 3-4 per day though - and if you are there at 2 a.m. now just take the 5 a.m. option first thing, obviously I'm reading this late but I hope you were able to get on that flight after all.

For a VERY LONG TIME the rule has been that if you no show a flight, you forfeit the value of your ticket. It's the same for every airline.
Points tickets used to be refundable in this instance but I believe that is changed as well.
The only exception is Business Select flights that would be automatically made into travel credits, other fare types will be forfeit - including any remaining legs of your same itinerary so if you no-show the outbound trip your return trip may also be affected.

Do you know what type of fare it was? If it was an I wanna get away plus or higher the credit can be transferred to another rapid reward member at no charge; If it is an I wanna get away, the easiest way to transfer it is to purchase an I wanna get away plus fare for the same amount using the credit, the cancel the reservation now making it a transferrable credit.
If for whatever reason this doesn't work or leaves too much on the table I would suggest to write-in with the description of the situation but hopefully using the WGA+ workaround will solve the issue as a self-service action. It might be granted only for the most exceptional situations.

One idea would be to maximize point usage by booking one-way tickets then you can use points on one leg and cash on the other.
Otherwise your booking has to be all cash equivalents or all points but not both - that feature is supposed to launched soon to allow points plus cash but not available yet.

It took me a wile to understand their postings; You are getting the points, it is just that they have two lines one for tier qualifying and one for the points that are available for you to use toward a flight. The 8K points are the credit card points you see in your total to use toward new flights, in addition that entire amount also counts toward companion fare. You will also get 1500 for every $5000 CC dollars spent, so it has different row that shows 0 additional points because you do not get these as additional points available for use to fly because that was included in the 8K line: This $0 line is to increase your tier qualifying points only. It is broken out a little different than your flight that shows both in the one line; you will always have some portion of a paid flight go toward Tier status, but you may not have a portion of your credit card; For example if the CC was only 3000 you would not get the tier status allocation because you did not reach the 5K required.
To simplify - the TQP are "theoretical" for your status and in this case they don't equate to having actual rapid reward points to redeem and they do not equate to having more CP qualifying points either.
Most points you earn from flights will show up as TQP, CP, and RR but these 1,500 point bonuses are only contributing to TQP.

Interesting I see what you are saying, the code is taking 25% off of a much higher point fee then if you just look at it without a code; 25% off of 16K pts vs without fee is 12K points. That does seem a bit suspect.

I am just crossing my fingers that you will be able to book a paid fare, and a points fare for another person, or even different fares, on the same reservation; It is painful that I cannot book my family's flights on a single reservation and it is difficult to manage when you actually can. I think this is wishful thinking though.

The reason tfor that suggestion is that SW can do the cancel and add of your companion in real time -- minimizing the risk that someone else could grab the last seat on the plane - thus leaving your companion without a seat.
Other than that, you can cancel and then book your companion yourself.
Agreed - try to "buy" tickets for the flight now and you can see if it is sold out or nearly sold out (or blocked for any other unknown reason).
You may be able to self service on it by canceling only your husband's ticket, or if it won't let you make that change online for whatever reason then call in and the phone agent can make the swap.

Your payment date is irrelevant, it goes off the statement closing date. Once you spend the $4k there's nothing you can do to speed up the award. They'll issue it automatically after the statement closing date.
